I’ve been diving deep into a fun project and wanted to share it with you all. Like many of you, I love djay Pro but wanted to expand my pad control without breaking the bank. I picked up a Novation Launchpad Mini MK3 and discovered something cool - you can actually get it to display your custom cue point colors dynamically!
The tricky part was figuring out how to make those beautiful RGB colors from djay Pro actually show up on the Launchpad pads. Standard MIDI mapping only gives you basic on/off states, but I wanted the real deal - proper color sync with my cue points.
After some XML file wizardry and reverse-engineering, I managed to do it! Now my Launchpad lights up with the exact same colors I’ve set for my cues in djay Pro.
If you’re curious about the setup or want to try it yourself, I’ve put everything up on GitHub with the config files and step-by-step instructions. Would love to hear if anyone else gives it a shot:
Thank you very much for sharing that! I just got my hands on this unit and was having trouble mapping it. At first, the unit showed the Colour I’ve mapped, but it was all lost after a normal off/on operation.
Now I know how to get to the “Programmer” mode and the Launchpad is working great! I could map everyting I wanted, with the correct midi out signals and colours.
What I did was a simple Hot Cue mapping for decks 3 and 4 on the 2 bottom rows. For the 2 upper rows, Hot Cues for Decks 1 and 2. Right below them, 2 Pitch play rows. After that, 1 row for Neural Mix (3 channel) commands and 1 row for Loops and Bounce Loops (using shift functions).
I also used the other buttons “around” the unit for funcions like SHIFT button, Beat Jump, Neural EQ on/off, Pitch Play pages up and down, etc.
I did it that way because I like to use decks 3 and 4 as “scratch decks”, so I load some tracks with scratch samples on them. And decks 1 and 2 for actually mixing.
I’ll post my mapping later, if anyone gets interested on it.
