Hi! I am trying to connect my Reloop Mixon8 Pro to the Djay app on the Metaquest to work in hardware mode, but for whatever reason, it is not connecting. (And yes, I do hear my controller connecting through my headset. It just doesn’t activate the software in hardware mode). I have tried with my Pioneer FLX4 and connected it successfully - but I cannot get it to work with the Mixon8. Any help would be appreciated… as according to the site, it should be compatible. …
Please help. Thanks!
Hi @jesimixx, sorry to hear you’re having issues connecting the Mixon 8. When creating new topics, please do not forget to answer the questions in our template with specific details about your setup not just “iPad” or “Latest Version”. This helps all of our community moderators to provide the most effective support to users with the utmost efficiency. Thanks!
Device Model (ex. 2020 iPad Air 4th Gen):
Version of operating system (ex. iOS 17.3.1):
Version of djay (ex. 5.1.3):
Hardware/controllers used (ex. Reloop Ready):
Hardware Firmware Version:
- Make sure you are running the latest Mixon 8 Pro firmware from the Reloop website.
- How exactly are you connecting to the Quest? What kind of cable, adapters, hubs, etc.?
- Which USB port on the Mixon 8 are you using?
- Makes sure the USB selector switch on the back of the Mixon 8 is in the correct position to match the socket you are plugged into. I recommend you use the USB-C socket.
- Do you have the source switches for each channel on the top of the Mixon set to match the USB socket you are using?
Device Model: Meta Quest 3
Version of operating system:MetaHorizon OS v72
Version of djay): v1.02050
Hardware/controllers used): Reloop Mixon8 Pro
Hardware Firmware Version:v5339
So I am connecting with a USB-C in the USB A slot; Yes, I have my selector switch in the “a” position on my mixer. (which I know is working b/c my FLX4 worked fine when I plugged in). I select MIDI mode in the app and only get the “learn more” prompt. It’s not identifying my unit. Any other thoughts?
Thanks for the additional info @jesimixx. Does the Mixon 8 work when connecting it in the exact same way to an iOS device running djay? This will help to rule out any issues with the cables, connections or the Mixon 8 hardware.
Yes, I did try that. It works fine both on my laptop and iPad. IT’s just with the Meta Quest that I am having the issue.
Hmmm… strange. Sounds like you have everything set up correctly to me. The only other thing I can think to suggest is to uninstall djay on the Quest, restart the device and then reinstall djay and try again.
So I uninstalled the program and reinstalled it onto the headset… still nothing. Very frustrating. Any other thoughts or troubleshooting advice?
I would try using the other USB-B socket on the Mixon 8 instead of the USB-C socket. Either with a USB-B to C cable or via a powered USB-C hub.
Just tried switching up the cables with a USB-B to C on both the A & B sockets. No luck, unfortunately. Any other help you can offer??? This is very disappointing. Anyone else have this issue and resolved it?
Sorry that didn’t work. So, far you’re the only I’ve heard of with this issue. I’m pretty much out of ideas. You could try reinstalling the latest Reloop firmware a second time to see if that helps.
Yeah, I tried reinstalling the latest firmware update to the Mixon8 - still no luck. I’m very disappointed. If you know of any other fixes, I would appreciate it.
Sorry @jesimixx, unfortunately, I can’t think of anything else to suggest. I can reach out to our hardware engineering team on Monday to see if they can replicate the issue on their end.
I appreciate that. Please let me know what they can resolve for me. Thanks.
Hi @jesimixx,
- Can you please confirm if audio is coming through the Mixon 8 when connected to the Quest 3 even if the MIDI is not working?
- On some occasions, while connected to the Quest, you have to turn the Mixon 8 Off then On again for MIDI to be detected.
- Also, you may need to rotate the Master Volume knob on the Mixon 8 before audio comes through.
Please test and let me know if this helps. Thanks!
Not sure how I would get audio to come through the Mixon 8 from the Quest Unit. I have tried turning the Mixon on and off, and I hear a sound come through the headset of a device connecting, so it seems to be detecting something… but it does not activate the midi. I rotate the master volume knob… nothing happens. I play a track on the app in regular mode, I only hear music through the headset. But there is nothing playing through the unit, as it does not seem to be working with the app. I use my Quest with my Pioneer FLX4, everything works as it should - midi device connects and I can control the app. I have tried my Mixon with an iPad, everything works as it should. I’m baffled. I don’t know whats wrong. Mixon does not appear as an external Midi device on my Quest.
Hi again @jesimixx, which cable and socket are you using? Our hardware team noticed that the USB-C connection of the Mixon 8 only charges the headset. However, the USB-B connection should work.
Eureka! That seemed to have done the trick! So it ONLY works when plugged into the USBA slot and switched to the USB-B Connection. So it sounds like there’s probably an update pending to correct this issue. But it did seem to get to work right now. Thanks for looking into it and let me know when that update comes out.
Excellent. Glad to hear it. You’re welcome!
Regarding an update, this would most like require a firmware update from Reloop, not a software update from Algoriddim. I will let our team know though. Thanks!
Yeah, I was playing with it tonight and it was very buggy. The program crashed after some time. Was feeling hopeful I could use this at an actual gig… but I don’t think it would be reliable. I would love to be able to adjust settings and have more control with the unit. Not all functions from the Controller are midi mapped and the audio coming from the master was not optimal (it was not my equipment, as it runs better off my ipad/laptop); Also, I could not use my cue through my Quest headset, which would have been ideal. Thanks for the help. Hope to see some more updates come out to make this something I could ACTUALLY use at an event.
