Creating playlists in Android

  • Version of operating system Android 10
  • Version of djay 5.2.8
  • Hardware/controllers used none

I have been watching and trying this software for about a year and I’m excited to start using it on radio and live shows. The Algoriddim team is killing it!

I do not see any option to either create a playlist or add tracks to a playlist from within DJay Pro on Android (phone and tablet). I saw previous posts about this going back to 2021. Is this still an issue and if so why is it so hard to implement?

Thanks,
Nat

Hi @nattyphysicist,

Thanks for sharing your question in our forum!

We appreciate the kind words and understand your POV regarding Androids’ music library functionality.

We suggest all users create playlists via the YouTube Music app for Android, which djay will then read.

However, we understand how creating playlists within the app via owned track files would be beneficial and will pass it along to our engineering team.

Have a nice day!

Hi to. @nattyphysicist is the ability to use YouTube new? How do you access it through the app?

Thanks for the reply. I’m sure there is a good reason already known for why this hasnt been implemented yet, just wondering.

For playlists outside of the app, I use the Samsung music player. Is there an advantage to using Youtube music?

Thanks
Nat

Hi Android Users

I’ve tried various iterations of DjayProAi and have come and gone because of cross device compatibility and library management
Great that you can use it on Mac Windows iOS and Android - but kind of seperately - eg like “I’m personally in my personal use case scenario not particularly bothered about the Cue points - but how do I add this new song to all my instances of Algoriddm?” This being Mac OS and iOS (iPhone iPad Laptop) nevermind Windows or Android.

I also tried:
Denon (because of the hardware) originally the Prime Go then a single SC6000 with an Eclair Warm2 Mixer. Some juggling involved - am i playing the green track or the blue track next? It was fun and sounded fantastic but the rig was a bit heavy and had lots of cables and power leads and stuff and the Denon Engine software was a bit (only a bit) shonky - again mainly in the area of Library Management - (some experienced users on Denon forum insist the process is quite straightforward if you follow the instructions)

… then Rekordbox (because of Omnis Duo) i gotta say the workflow: prepare on Rekordbox on my (Mac) Laptop from my one and only iteration of my DJ Music collection then export to USB for all/most of the Pioneer / AlphaTheta devices and still be able to prepare playlists and do other things to the one iteration of my music database on host laptop/Macbook via my iphone or ipad via local wifi without wonky shonky cloud stuff was/is pretty good. Rekordbox gets some bad press but is pretty good imho.

… then Virtual DJ because it worked out of the box with my Reloop MixTour Pro - like Algoriddm of course

Anyway TLDR above - inspired by the adverts for 5.4 I was quite happy to revisit DJProAI on my new Pixel 9 Fold.

I have set YTMusic as my default music player - and (i think) the necessary permissions in YTMusic App according to the Algoriddm Andoid Manual, some old threads here, and some ahem Reddit threads - but i still cant see any YTMusic Playlists in the DJProAi App on my Pixel
… eg I have tried creating a couple of test playlists in YTM Library > Device Files … and also YTM Library > Downloads …. and also YTM Library > Uploads But still no sign of any playlists

I’m in the process of uploading all my own owned music collection to YTM to see if that helps - (but see above no sign of any playlists yet in my Pixel 9 Algoridmm Android App)
Do i have to then download them to YTM downloads or something?
Probably not I guess - but what step or setting am I missing ?

Any and all advice Welcome - no complaints … Caveat Emptor etc. I’m happy to ride with relative limitations of Algoriddim for Android. Limitations create opportunities and all that. I’ll certainly be thinking on my feet wondering which of the 5000 songs to play next from “Local Music” or “Files” on the Android App - but surely any DJ must be able to use playlists on a DJ software on a device spotlighted in the latest upgrade videos of that software?

I’m suspecting this is not a support ticket thing - just something perhaps not fully elaborated in the Algoriddm Android manual or something my dumb brain has missed.

Thank You
Alan
