given we all have 3 EQ knobs but 4 neural mix stems, it would make sense to be able to decide what each knob controls in neural mix mode.
The fact that ‘harmonic’ includes the bass is what stops me from using neural mix as a default over classic EQ.
If I could control knob assignments, I’d have drums+bass on my low knob, harmonic (without bass) on my middle knob, and vocals on my top.
This lines up with how transitions generally work: when it’s time to switch to the next track, you want to bring in the beat and bassline of the next track. I know this is mixing 101 stuff, but I want to highlight how great i think this would be as an upgrade, and surely implementable.
In the MIDI Editor, you can choose whether stems are configured with 3 or 4 elements. You can also assign multiple actions to a single element (in this case, the low EQ). Manual assignment should therefore be possible exactly as you describe.
Hi @jpb83, thanks for the suggestion. However, you can easily customize the MIDI mapping of your EQ knobs yourself to suit your preference.
If your hardware has a gain knob or filter that you don’t use, you can even map this to the 4th NM option.
Alternatively, you can use the R-Click menu option in the MIDI Learn tool to Duplicate Mapping for Control option to map both the Drums & Bass to the Low EQ knob.
