DDJ-REV5 the crossfader appears to be not functioning properly

Hardware/controller: I mostly use DDJ-REV5
Firmware: is up to date, I have the latest version 1.01
I am using MacOS: Monterey, version 12.7.6 MacBook Pro (2021) Chep Apple M1 Pro
I mostly use : Algoriddim djay PRO version 5.2.4.
Problem: The cross fader on the Pioneer DDJ REV5 is not functioning correctly when I move it slowly from the right to the left and when I move it slowly from the left into the right.
Crossfader works but is jerking on the screen (graphic) and the audio then jerks too. Auto transition work well . If I edit mapping so a volume fader functions as the crossfader it then shows as a smooth motion and functions correctly. I sent the unit back to Pioneer and they acknowledged this issue and they replaced the crossfader and swapped the main PCB but this did not make difference. Pioneer sent back the unit and said that the REV5 is designed to work with Rekordbox and Serato and while it can be used with any DJ software the accuracy and reliability can not be guaranteed… Pioneer judge this not to be a hardware fault.

is any one having this problem?

Hi @shahin, please navigate to the djay Settings>MIDI devices and make sure Crossfader Cutting Mode is disabled.

Hi Slak Jaw. Thanks for the above suggestion. However this did not solve the problem.

You’re welcome @shahin. Can you please try to capture a video of the issue, upload it to your Google Drive/Dropbox, enable sharing permissions, then share a link to the video here? Thanks!

Gi again here is the video link : IMG_0736.MOV - Google Drive

Hi @shahin, thanks for the video. This is very helpful. Do you experience the same behavior with Rekordbox and Serato?

Hi there, have you gone into the rev utility manager? You can adjust it.

Hi Slak Jaw. I experience the sam problem with Serato and and Virtual DJ. There is no a visual representation of the cross fader within Rekordbox software so I could not tell . .Please see attached video link which you can see it is still doing the fault within Serato IMG_0737.MOV - Google Drive

See my question. Have you checked the utility manager for Rev5 as you can change the position of Crossfader and tweak it.

Could you please send me an example with a picture of the utility Manager and how can I adjust this . Please note that I am using laptop not iPad .

Download utility manager from here

Connect to MacBook.

Change cross fader settings until it’s right for you.

Try all the to zero first - far left

Also check the Manuel for other cool settings by pressing back button. For example you can change to split cue. Go to page 120.

Hi Dysfunk and thanks for this. Please refer to the details of my post at the top my Firmware is up to date. I do not use Rekordbox . I will check the Rev 5 manual as you suggested and see if it will solve the problem

Hi there, if you look you will see the utility in drivers section.

This has settings you can change within the hardware such as cross fader and direction of it. Read the Manuel it will help.

Hi Dydfunk DJ . As I stated above my firmware is up to date, I have the latest version 1.01 which was released in Feb 2024. I have been through the prossess of adjusting and change the position of Crossfader within both Serato and Djay Pro without success and before I sent the unit to Pioneer engineer who also made the several tests before they changed the physical crossfader on the unit . I mainly use Djay Pro and hardly use Rekordbox or Serato so page 120 of Rev5 Manual is about Rekordbox software.

I really don’t know what else to say to you. I use djay pro with Rev 5 and have download the utility manager in order to change some settings in Rev 5 which has nothing to do with Rekordbox or firmware. It’s independent settings you can apply to Rev 5 regardless of what software you use. I’ve changed some settings myself. I also had some issues with Crossfader with Crossfader effects. Defo made a difference for me. You can either accept what I’m saying or continue to believe it only applies to firmware and Rekordbox. I’ve tried to help you all I can.

Hi @shahin, thanks for confirming and sharing the video. This is very helpful. Given that this happens with Serato and VDJ as well means that this is most likely an issue with the hardware or hardware settings as @Dysfunk_DJ has shared above.

Hi Dysfunk DJ. Thanks for your support and I value your contribution and information. … I have the DDJ-REV5 SETTING UTILITY within my system and since I bought the DDJ Rev5, please see the attached picutures https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_SnzHOKgReygtNpqwQiJxOcXTWJh6coh/view?usp=sharing . I hope I understood you. Also see this link https://drive.google.com/file/d/1USX-A2SvGeermaJkFGMACN3jZSLqiv1A/view?usp=sharing

It’s saying I need permission to open. This is the utility.

If you press on button at back and hold back button it will take you into settings. You don’t need any device attached to do that. You will need Manuel though from page 120 to know what they are.

With utility you will need your Mac attached and as you can see there are Crossfader settings. Not sure it will help with jerky cross fader but will help to centre it better.

Thanks. Yes this is the DDJ-REV5 SETTING UTILITY I have . I have made several attempts to adjust this setting (between 0 to 7) but it did not help my jerking crossfader.
