Version of operating system iPad OS : 18.3.1 (up to date)
Version of djay : 5.2.9 (up to date)
Hardware/controllers used : DDJ-REV5 - Firmware V2 (up to date)
Hello,
I bought the DDJ-REV5 as upgrade from my Reloop Buddy because of the statement by Algoriddim that it was a fully supported controller.
Then, I quickly realised at least one of the key features of this controller, “Piano Play”, is not supported/integrated with Djay.
This is unfortunate, as users on this forum said it worked. Does it actually ?
However, if not (yet), this is something I can wait for.
Something I can not live without, though, is the controller summoning the performance pad modes. Like “Hot Cue” should summon the “Hot Cue” subscreen. But it doesn’t work. DDJ-REV5 is not summoning the Performance Pads modes in Djay, by double-clicking the mode on the controller, as my old Reloop Buddy did.
This is a real bummer as it is slowing down my workflow, and preventing me from becoming a legendary DJ…
More seriously, this has to work. Otherwise, we are really not all in “fully supported” area.
I cannot work without that - even in bedroom mode.
Hi @Davidv100, thanks for the details about your setup and the issues. Please note that the UI changing to match the hardware pad modes is currently only supported on select Reloop controllers like the Buddy and Mixtour Pro. There is a suggestion topic to make this MIDI mappable for all hardware though.
Regarding the Piano Play pad mode, I need to check with engineering on this. I’ll report back when I have news.
Hi @Davidv100, I spoke with engineering and the Piano Play pad mode is mapped to djay’s Pitch Cue feature. This is similar to Piano Play in Rekordbox, but please understand that these software features are slightly different so a direct match is not currently possible.
Piano Play in Rekordbox:
Lets you trigger a hot cue at different pitches, like playing notes on a piano.
Uses your controller’s performance pads or keyboard for pitch variation.
The cue itself doesn’t move; only its pitch changes.
You set a hot cue.
When you enter Piano Play Mode, each pad/button triggers the same hot cue, but at different pitch values.
The pitch shift usually follows a chromatic scale (musical notes).
Pitch Cue in djay:
Works like Piano Play, but with extra flexibility.
You can shift pitch before or after triggering the cue.
You can change the musical Scale of the pad matrix.
Select a hot cue like usual.
Instead of just shifting pitch while playing, you can pre-adjust the pitch before triggering the cue.
For more details on Pitch Cue, please refer the djay user manual section 5.14.1 Pitch Cue. I hope that helps!
Thank you @Slak_Jaw.
Yes I understand “Piano Play” is very much software related, and we cannot expect Djay to include all specificities of other software. Fair enough.
This question is/was of less importance to me than the Pad Mode toggling/mapping we are talking about in another thread. I am not exactly a piano virtuoso anyway.
Thank you very much for taking the time for this comprehensive answer. Much appreciated.
Have a nice day.
