I’ve been having an issue with deck selection. I’m trying to consolidate some MIDI controls on my LPD8 and use my precue as a deck selection for it.
The problem I’m running into is deck selection never seems to work! I duplicate my precue midi command, and set them to select deck 1/2 respectively, then on my akai I go to general, selected deck, beat jump, but it never works for deck 2. It seems to only work for deck 1.
Does anyone have experience with setting it up like this? Am I missing something?

Hi @Austinjacobm94, can you please share some screenshots of these MIDI commands with the Advanced Control section expanded?
I’ll reconfigure them and share tonight. Thanks for the response!

You’re welcome @Austinjacobm94
So this is what I’m attempting to do.
It would speed up my workflow some and prevent accidental presses. I only use beat skip when I’m cueing so it works really well for me. It looks like it should work but for some reason it only beat skips deck 1.
Any update on this? Would love to know if I’m doing something wrong.
Thanks for the screenshots @Austinjacobm94, this helps me to understand what you’re trying to achieve here. I’m pretty sure I was able to achieve what you are after on my setup.
- First, I mapped 1 button Select Deck 1 and a separate button to Select Deck 2. This ensures that I have strict control of the deck selection. Note that the Target is set to General
- Then I mapped a button the Skip 8 Beats Backward and another button the Skip 8 Beats Forward. Note that the Target is set to Selected Deck
Please review and let me know if this hepls,
Essentially. The only difference is I’m duplicating my monitor control to also act as the deck selection.
Please try deleting the mapping for the Monitor Control and just do the Deck Selection and see if that works first.
Still no luck. This is my setup. The buttons are hold buttons and there’s no option to specify them as such. Do you think that has something to do with it?
That is likely the issue. I just tested this with a second MIDI controller and it works perfectly. Please make sure in the Advance Control Configuration the Type is set to Button.
That’s how I have it. It must have something to do with the hold attribute.
That must be the issue. All I can suggest is to try starting with a fresh MIDI mapping to see if you can map those buttons without the “Hold” attribute and with “Default” instead.
Maybe try mapping this to some different buttons to see if the issue happens on them as well.
Hi @Austinjacobm94, I spoke with our engineering team. They have a hunch about what the issue could be. It’s important to know that deck selection runs independently per controller. This gives you the power to have individual deck selections on each device, but requires having the “General > Select Deck 1/2” buttons on the same device as the “Selected Deck > Beat Jump” mapping.

That could make sense. Doesn’t quite solve what I’m trying to accomplish but it solves the mystery at least. Thank you!
