Delay using effects pads and skipping

  • Device model- Lenovo i7 / 16gb
  • Version of operating system- windows 11
  • Version of djay- 5.2.9923
  • Hardware/controllers- Rane four and rane seventy two mkII/Twelves

So I’m giving this software another go since i cant get a refund. with this latest update, it seems to be moving in the right direction so far and i like how I’m able to map the effects that i commonly use now. but there are a couple things that still needs work. every time i apply an effect or hit a hotcue, there is like a half second delay to activate. throws me off. also when sync is activated, cueing up a track makes the active playing track jump and try to sync with the track being cued. i always forget to turn the sync off and on when cueing. i’ve been trying to get use to the quarks and do some kind of workaround but its hard to coming from VDJ and Serato that does not do that.

Hi @Stews_CustomFigures, thanks for the details about your setup and the issues. Can you please try to capture a video of the issues, upload it to your Google Drive/Dropbox, enable sharing permissions, then share a link to the video here? Thanks!

Here’s a quick video of the split second delay. It only affects the stems and stem fx. The regular sound fx works fine. As for the song jumping, I didn’t have time to play through some stuff to get it to happen. It doesn’t happen on start up of doing a set but will eventually end up doing it about 30 min into it.

Hi @Stew, this sounds like it could be a hardware performance limitation. Please navigate to the djay Settings>Advanced>NEURAL MIX and share what the Quality Setting says.

I’ve tried both 80% and 60% in the setting. Those are the only 2 in that setting. Before the past update or 2, it use to have 100% but wasn’t sure if that made any difference. Before this past update, I had to activate a stem effect after loading a track in order to eliminate a delay, which was at least a second before actually activating, and then I could use the pads like normal. But now I don’t need to do that but has that slight delay mostly every time.

Thanks for the additional info @Stew. It really sounds like your device is the limiting factor here. Please understand that Neural Mix is processing intensive. You might be able to reduce the delay you’re experiencing by optimizing your device for DJing. There are some good tips in the article linked below.

thanks for the help. i did manage to get this better. after reading that, although I’m using a desktop and not a laptop, i found the graphics settings to add djay to it and set the performance to high and so far that seems to have helped with minimal delay and was able to do a hour long recording without the active playing song jump when cueing. fingers crossed that this was the fix i needed to get by.

Excellent! You’re welcome @Stews_CustomFigures. Thanks for the follow up and details.

Fortunately the four did improve a little with the pad response. It only has a split of a second delay. But, I finally got around to practice with my seventy two set up and there is no improvement. Still same delays.

I found the culprit to the delayed FX response. It’s the twelves! I was remapping the 72 mixer buttons and was playing a tune without the twelves activated and noticed how responsive the fx was. I activated the twelves and presto! The delayed activation came back.

So, has anyone experienced this? Is there a fix?

i found the issue. its the key lock. when on, the delay happens. when off it works as it should. i guess this is a known issue?

Hi @Stews_CustomFigures, thanks for the updates. Yes, Key Lock will add a latency of about 100ms when activated. This is a known performance limitation that the engineering team is already investigating.

was hoping the last version update would address this but no. any word on if this is going to be fixed with the keylock?

Hi @Stews_CustomFigures, the team is still working on this. It’s a complex issue that involves certain compromises to balance performance and quality.
