Djay 6.0 dream features?

With every new major release, djay has always managed to surprise me with genuinely forward-thinking features. Not just incremental updates like new hardware support or quality-of-life improvements, but real milestones that change the way you work — things like Fluid Beatgrid or Neural Mix when they were first introduced.

That’s why I’m really curious what the next big step could be for djay 6.0.

One area I personally would love to see reimagined is library management and track/set preparation, ideally with strong AI support. Tools like DJOID and Lexicon already show how powerful this can be, and I think djay would be an amazing place to integrate similar ideas in a deeper, more seamless way.

Some examples of what I’m dreaming of:

  • Automatic AI tagging of tracks (energy, vibe, style, mood, etc.)

  • User-definable rules for tagging or organizing music

  • A more advanced “next / compatible track” system that goes beyond BPM and key, and really understands musical context using AI - maybe not even restricted to genre (open format!)

  • Smarter prep tools for sets, not just individual tracks

I’m not talking about small incremental features here, but something that feels like a true next-generation leap — the kind of thing djay has done so well in the past.

What about the rest of you? What features or big ideas would you love to see in djay 6.0?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

I personally wouldn’t want any of those bullet points you highlight tbh. Im going back the other way of the DJ doing the DJing and not the computer, that just sounds to me like another nail in the coffin for the human being behind the decks if they aren’t even selecting their own music to play.

Was about to say, we only consolidate on the current goodies and make them a lot lighter on system resources across all specs and platforms!

Call them “Under the hood updates”

That would be really great.

You guys have to up your dreaming skills a tad.

And I’m not afraid that a computer takes over my curating skills to be honest. I still select the tracks and control the vibe. Everyone has his own fingerprint on the set. Or not…

Reading your thoughts above, it doesnt sound like you are curating the set though, AI is tagging tracks for you with ‘energy’ or ‘mood’ so you’re not making that decision yourself, then you’re wanting AI to delve into choosing a compatible track that goes beyond key or BPM matching, so its essenitally choosing what it thinks you should play next. Then ‘smarter prep tools’ would imply you want the software to assist with preperation.

I have around 6500 tracks i use for DJing that ive collected over the years, and outside of a few tracks on albums that im not familiar with, i know what 95% of them are, how they sound, their structure, how to mix in and out of them. I then use this knowledge to pick what i want to play next to suit the audience im playing to etc.

Im more interested in what is next for hardware, we need a compact battle mixer with USB-C PD, hardware FX with paddles and good controls for looping, stems etc. The Rp7’s are one of the most innovative DJ devices to be released in the past decade, tapping into a whole subset of DJs who play 7” records, but as of now there is no real mixer solution to go with them, the DJM-S5 has too many compromises.

Software to me has peaked with functionality to the point where its become mega bloated and has so many power hungry features, even top tier computers are struggling to run it. Looking around at the DJ industry right now, all the software seems to be facing major performance issues on the latest versions, almost like they’ve coded themselves into oblivion. Rekordbox is a mess, Serato 4.0 is a mess, the latest version of Djay seems ok to me but there are tonnes of issues being reported on this forum from what i can see (relating to performance), Engine DJ is a mess on the latest version…. all performance issues.

Id rather go back to the Serato 2.0 days where it was rock solid, never glitched, no lag on cue pads, no 2/3 minute wait for track searches, lets get back to basics and have software we can trust in a professional environment, not something loaded with headline features but leaves you stressing all night whether its going to make it to the end.

Indeed. So, it won’t be picking the next song for me. I might just go for something totally different. For me, DJing is all about that next song. Everything else is just a bonus. The second I stop having fun surprising the crowd, I’ll just let Spotify pick the next track and head to the bar.

I kinda agree with you there, but it doesn’t really bother me as long as the app runs smoothly. And FWIW I experience djay as pretty solid. Also IMO software quality should be a given, and not something that could ever be used as ‘major new feature’.

Let’s get back to the main idea: what big new software features would really make DJing better for you? None? A simpler interface? Also, how do you feel about how djay handles its music library? I think it could use a refresh. That’s what sparked this thread in the first place.

Thanks for sharing @Mister_Tuur, @STU-C and @Armigo. I’ll pass this onto our dev team.

The worst that can happen is to deprive the game of virtuosity, so-called let-ups and the worst that can happen is to deprive the game of virtuosity and so-called ideal let-ups :hear_no_evil_monkey:

Turning Djay into a video game on music. I’ve been a DJ for 34 years and admits that I watch wawform as enchanted for good measure, it’s already possible to play with video, but what , automation caused the displacement of skills and hearing and this is too dangerous . practically everyone today will play after a crooked explanation of functions and buttons. but maybe I’m too sentimental or longing for vinyl, although it’s not enough that it comes out on vinyl, I’ll immediately point out that nothing is an alternative either in sound or in the behavior of the record on the turntable… but it is so TECHNOLOGY. I think, like some colleagues, that djay is enough for professional playing.

No discussion there. Still, everything will move on. 6.0 will come too…

Hi @Jaroslaw_Szkudlarek, can you please edit your post? It has some issues and is confusing to read. Thanks!

I agree on the library front, we need a more seamless way of getting music to our iOS devices for example. Perhaps some kind of wireless import from a computer, that would be good.

I’m not sure I dream about djay much but the match feature is a nightmare. It’s Sooooo bad. Even Engine lets you filter and combine search suggestions

End of the day Algoriddim is a software company that has always pushed the envelope of what’s possible. Think Spotify, way back when, initial stem introduction and more recent fluid grids and stems 2.0.

id like to see more intuitive related tracks where specific folders or playlists can be searched, vocal analysis and why not use AI for the that? It’s where it’s at. Helpful tools to find that next track that keeps the dance floor or sends them to bar for drink :sob:

sample stems so can play say vocal bit of sample or drums.

stems could be refined more, gui more intuitive that responds to where you are - cue, stems, effects etc. bit like rekordbox. Also for more screen space can have 4 deck showing like 2 deck with jogs but screen changes accordingly with press 1/3 or 2/4.

Better Spotify integration with ability to place tracks in playlists, stems would be a bonus but that will up to Spotify.

Maybe have access to Alpha theta effect suite would be dope rather than try and mimick like flx 10. Which brings me round to keep pushing for tighter hardware integration, like why is pioneer flx 10 not external device to make use of awesome effects that pioneer has? Just needs more thought around it.

just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the input @daniel_curley and @Dysfunk_DJ

I hope that just the Win and Mac versions of the library can be improved further. I don’t ask for much, as long as it can be on par with RECORDBOX and SERATO. As for iOS, it might be unavoidable to leave it as it is for now.

Thanks for the input @

Please and I’m sorry

No problem. Thank you

Compatibility for the Denon SC6000M would be enough for me. They’re gathering dust in a corner now.

At this point in time Djay Pro has everything else I need for my type of DJing. Hence the reason my SC6000m’s are gathering dust. :frowning:

A while ago, I suggested introducing an option to optimize the database. Over time, a lot of information is stored there - including titles that you may no longer have in your playlists or library. It would be nice if you could remove these orphaned entries from the database, manually if necessary.
