Djay Database and Cue Point feedback from MixMasterG

Meanwhile, MixMasterG has something very important to say about djay to developers here:

Got alot of answers to my cue problems;

  • “now u see me, now you don’t”
  • now am here, nope and there"
Now I understand why it happens! Knowledge is power

I can never understand this fellow. His technical knowledge blows my head off :joy::joy:

Hi @Armigo, can you please share a time stamp for the section of the video you’re referring to?

10:10 Welcome
14:12 MacOS 27 Golden Gate works with all I tested
17:27 How djay recongnizes tracks (the source of the issue)
22:05 This leads to cue points acting very weird (full demo)
26:12 Why is this an issue?
27:37 djay needs granted access to the audio files (grants)
30:16 The mystery of the spontanous changing cues/loops! And the growing djay database (without the collection being expanded)

Hi @Armigo, I’ve move this to its own topic.

I have shared the video and time stamps with our dev team. Thanks again!

Yup!, he’s a guru; 40yrs+ in the making. Retired dj but an avid apple software developer. I like how he actually eaches the subject matter to us “nobodies” and we still understand.
Bought his apps some yesrs back when I was still a rekordboxer

it took a while to understand where he was going with it, but it was worth it because THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME!!! i don’t know what fixed it, but a while back i also had issues where the database just mysteriously started to grow and grow and grow and covers would randomly go missing.
i believe that’s how i learned that djay has these weird issues with metadata that MixMasterG is talking about. except of course i had no idea why or how it was happening and couldn’t go anywhere near as deep as he did, so this was enlightening.
hope djay devs will watch this and fix it because it’s best case annoying that it handles metadata this way and worst case mega-destructive if you are unaware that it’s happening!!

thanks for passing it along. i don’t know if you remember, but a while back i was running into the same issue where the database was mysteriously expanding forever. but the biggest difference was that i had no idea why it was happening and never really got an explanation, though the problem eventually did go away somehow.

hope the devs will fix this weird behavior

Btw, @Slak_Jaw thanks for these :backhand_index_pointing_down: too

I notice small things - these emojis were not there until today (or afew days ago?). Just seen them today - typical “under the hood” improvements there

Glad you guys noticed and are happy with the additions!

Loosely related to this.

My goal is simple but execution turns out to be a massive challenge. I’m using Djay Pro in the iPad (need video). My fixtures run on Lightjams which can be driven via OSC, MIDI. To automate light effects I want to send MIDI to Lightjams with MIDI coming from Djay Pro. Cue points fire MIDI message to Lightjams making it hands off.

Have a starting point of a strawman. A track parser to read the track name, cue points. A bridge to watch load/play events and send them to the PC where Lightjams runs and a PC component that takes care of cue point timing.

The biggest unknown is not knowing reliably how/when Djay updates the database/tables with track data so the corresponding table(s) can be watched (RO) and passed to the bridge.

I know I’m way outside of Algoriddim’s support scope (and won’t ever be requesting support on this) but this is a community and I was wondering whether anyone is working on this. This would such an awesome addition to expanding the ecosystem

Wow! Sounds like a cool project @tfmeier. Unfortunately, I don’t have any experience with this type of setup and can’t offer any suggestions.

Please check my suggestion and vote for it if you find it useful.

With this suggestion, you could trigger stuff, like midi events / commands. This will probably make your life easier. There is also a another suggestions to have an Api on Djay, so that you could get info from like ‘Playlists‘, ‘Tracks‘, etc without having to reverse engineering the Djay database

Sounds interesting. I found the suggestions list but can’t find your post. Can you please give me the URL or title. Txs

Ah sorry, I forgot to add the link

Track markers

Api / Own apps

Own features / plugins

Maybe this is also usefull Soundswitch
