Djay (free version) with Numark party mix

Bought numark party mix for Xmas for an 8 year old. Connected to iPad using camera adaptor.

Can get the music to play through the speakers on the party mix, but can’t use any other controls - do I need the paid version or am I missing a simple solution to be able to use the party mix instead of the iPad screen?
