The implementation of your DJAY app in Meta-Quest is very promising.
I can’t wait to have all features of the iOS app such as Neural mix EQ, Fluid beatgrid, etc. in the Meta-Quest app.
Unfortunately, your virtual hardware is still limited to the basics and it would take time to develop it further as you started from scratch.
So, what if you would make a partnership with TRIBE XR?
They have already virtualised the best Pioneer hardware in their app.
But they are missing the DJAY software that would bring their virtualised hardware to the next level with the amazing features that you can offer…
To be able to mix in VR with the best DJ software on the best DJ gear would be !
Thank you for considering my suggestion.
I also find the idea quite appealing, but also more the idea as a kind of showcase for what is possible. Beyond that, I can’t really share the enthusiasm for it, because I don’t see any relevant added value. Is this supposed to be the future, where you go to a festival and there’s a DJ with these glasses on his head? Or should we increasingly attend virtual parties where everyone sits at home and you don’t have to go out at all? We had that during the pandemic and I really hope we don’t (have to) experience something like that again soon. In this respect, I find VR interesting in this area too, of course, but it’s not more than a gimmick (for me) at the moment. But nobody knows what tomorrow will bring, and maybe one day I’ll wake up and see things completely differently.
Thanks for the suggestion @Nicolas. I have forwarded this to the dev team for consideration. In the meantime, please use the blue Vote button at the top left of this page so we can gauge user demand for this feature. Thanks!
Music is both personal and meant to be shared. this is what we have to promote and keep foremost in our minds as technology and the world impart changes on our lives.
VR headsets are tools to help artists realize their visions, so I think your concerns are both valid and out of line, but I also happen to share them.
You use Covid as an example where we were trained to order everything into our comfort/safety bubble for “protection” but that has caused an uptick in social anxiety (we have paid dearly for the privilege/lesson/“convenience”). I think we have to have the perspective of “just because we can doesn’t mean we should” when it comes to beaming interactive events to others on their immersive devices, and encourage people to come experience life with their fellow humans in person.
My point was not to debate whether VR is the future and certainly not whether it is the future we want.
If DJay is coming to Meta-Quest, let’s do it the best way…
Algoriddim developed the most innovative DJ software around. Tribe XR has virtualised the DJ hardware you find in most night clubs and festivals.
The DJay app in Meta Quest is missing some good virtual hardware while Tribe XR is missing the software: they don’t offer Neuralmix, Fluid beatgrid, etc.
Getting both companies to work together would launch deejaying in VR to another level!
Now to feed the debate:
I am an amateur DJ. I cannot afford to buy and keep up with the latest hardware from Pioneer. They have a quasi monopole situation on the market and their prices are way to high. (My hardware is a Reloop Mixon8).
The solution offerred by Tribe XR allows me to practice on the latest technology from Pioneer at the small cost of a monthly subscription!
On top of it, I don’t have to worry about flightcases and cables when I travel. The Meta-Quest fits in my luggage wherever I go I am able to practice my daily-routines.
See how Laidback Luke travels with DJay on his iPhone and a simple Reloop Tour Pro. The advantage of the Meta-Quest over the iPhone is that you’re not limited by the size of the screen!
Once I will be good enough to mix in big night clubs and festivals, I will already know the CDJ300 as well as the DJM-900NXS2 and how they integrate with DJay.
ALGORIDDIM: you can be sure that Tribe XR is currently looking at an integration of Rekordbox in their Meta Quest app. But there is nothing ready yet. If you can pull off to integrate DJay in Tribe XR before Rekordbox is available, you will be the first software on the VR market… and not just a “gimmick” as someone said in the comments!
