Djay Pro becomes unresponsive and requires full reset on iPad

iPad Pro 4th gen
iOS 18.0
Djay 5.2.5
DDJ-FLX4

I’ve run into a few occasions where djay pro becomes completely unresponsive. The app stays open while I return to the Home Screen and remains frozen when I return to the app. My controller’s midi light flashes when this happens and will not reconnect to the app when unplugged/plugged, including my USB-C hub.

I assume it was triggered by something I had done in Safari, because I was watching a quick djay pro video, ironically enough, in the browser. But the other time it happened, I don’t know what I was doing. During that incident, I thought it may have been the new shorter cables I had purchased or possibly too many connections to my hub was causing connection issues. Regardless, I had to reset my iPad to reestablish connection.

As of writing this, it happened again when I went downstairs to check version number. App is unresponsive, music channels are flashing as if it were ready to go. Controller is not responding and doesn’t know it is connected. I’m sorry I don’t know if it was responding before I opened settings in iOS.

I’m not sure if it’s worth noting that I leave my hub connected to my iPad with power, usb drive(library), and controller plugged in when my setup is home.

Sorry for the wall of text, I wanted to be thorough.

Hi @SpEd, thanks for the details about your setup and the issue.

  1. Please close all apps on your iPad including djay and follow the procedure linked below to perform a Forced Restart of your iPad: https://support.apple.com/guide/ipad/force-restart-ipad-ipad9955c007/ipadost
  2. In general when DJing, I recommend that you don’t run other apps in the background unless they are essential to your workflow.
  3. I also recommend that you disable automatic screen lock on your iPad while DJing.
  4. Can you confirm that your USB hub is powered and connected to your original iPad charger and cable? I would retest with only the essential things you need for DJing connected to the hub.
  5. If the above steps don’t work, you may also want to run tests with different USB cables.

I hope that helps!
