djay software for Linux

That’s why I kept those requirements separted first. DJay software for linux (generelly) versus DJay software for gaming handhelds (running kind of linux). I came up with the handheld devices for a reason. And now they’re mixing topics in here with all these linux distros out there.

Well you can’t have one without the other, so I think it still makes sense to have them grouped together for now. We can always adjust this in the future if necessary…

i will follow the updates for this

I switched from Windows 11 to Linux Mint on my desktop PC a few months ago, but the only software that keeps me from switching to Linux on my notebook as well is djay. Well, there is Mixxx, but it doesn’t compare to djay when it comes to convenience when mixing, especially when using a hardware controller. It would be really nice if one day djay would also run on Linux, especially as Linux user numbers are increasing. There is already a djay version for Android and this is also based on Linux. It shouldn’t be that difficult to provide a native Linux version, should it?

Hi @Jockrym, welcome to the Community! Thanks for the feedback.

Hello, any updates on this topic? Djay on Linux, since the number of handhelds is increasing and Valve is now moving away from the proprietary Steam OS for handhelds and integrating more devices. Since you’re also relying on distribution via app stores for your other systems, the distro would essentially be secondary here if you’re focusing on making it installable via Flathub.

Hi @Cascedy, thanks for checking in. We do not have any updates to share on this topic.

Thanks for the additional input @SK_Pod

Did you ever try that by urself?! Guess not, otherwise you won’t write this. It’s even not possible to run DJay Pro in WIne due to you need an exe installer and the Windows version is delivered via Microsoft store only. And after spending many time in trying to setup in KVM I totally gave up. Okay, I respect your opinion. However, you shouldn’t diminish our requirements here. There are already posts about the functionality of the Apple environment vs. Windows and Android. The answer is always the same: “We’re trying, but we have significantly more experience with Apple.”

I deleted my post with the erroneous information “u” so kindly pointed out.

Have a great weekend.

So I take it that we still don’t have a linux version of the app???

That is correct @ByronLeroySA. No Linux version.

Hello everybody, I’m new here.

I’m on it with all my heart. I’m working on Linux (OpenSUSE) as DevOps Engineer for my company, I’m using Linux for gaming and also I’m making own music in Reaper on Linux (yeah, Reaper has native version for Linux, HUGE shout out for devs of Reaper), only thing I cannot do is DJing on linux which I wish I have ability to. I have MBP just for DJing which I’m not happy with, I wish I can use my Linux laptop which I can feel way much more comfortable than Mac. We still have hope in you Algoriddim Team. Linux gives us great opportunities, I aware of Mixxx existence but Mixxx is still very behind other software in terms of hardware compability (and their weird music library which doesn’t allow me to nest my playlists in folders, maybe this will change but right now - I hate it)

If I can make you a hint: as your software is propietairy, and you really want make Linux version of Djay Pro - please concider releasing it as Flatpak or Appimage, dont make distribution specific version. Flatpak provides entire dependency suite and its distribution agnostic app platform.

I’m waiting with hope to be able to DJ on Linux seriously.

Another upvote here for a linux version of DJ Pro.

I’ve been moving away from M$ products for a while now, and pretty much DJ Pro is the only software that demands that my laptop stays as a dual boot.

Hi @Russell_West, welcome to the Community! Thanks for the additional feedback.

Upvoting this as well. I’ve moved away from both Mac and Windows. This is the only software I need to dual boot native for. I attempted to make a lightweight version of Windows with VMWare but I get audio stuttering or freezing when doing anything in the file manager in Djay Pro which makes it practically unusable. There’s already VR and Mobile support but no Linux support.

Hi @micro230, welcome to the Community! Thanks for sharing.

One more upvote on this one. No good DJ software is definitely holding me back.
Some DJ controllers are already well-supported, eg mine. And Linux has great low-latency audio instruments.
