After a run of rough gigs and way too many “what the hell is going on” moments, I’ve realised the **Pioneer DJM-900NXS is still everywhere across Australia.
At my residency I’ve mostly been on the Pioneer DJM-900NXS2, so I got comfortable there but every couple of months I hit another city, jump on a 900NXS setup, and the same issues come back.
I’ve adapted to using the CDJs just as players, which is fine, but I’m noticing drift. I can’t tell if it’s a bug in djay Pro AI or just worn/poorly maintained venue gear. The drift feels like the old Serato Scratch Live days when your turntables weren’t grounded properly that subtle timing slip that throws everything off. That’s exactly what I’m getting now on CDJs running through a 900NXS. its happend at too many venues to be same problem with every cdj.
The biggest issue is my style relies heavily on samples for transitions cutting snares, dropping tracks on the one, building energy and signalling what’s coming next. Without that, I end up just playing tracks straight normal, which feels like I’m stripping back everything that makes my sets mine.
I’ve tried MIDI mapping as a workaround it worked at one venue but then I ran into another problem: that mixer had clearly been repaired or modified, and it started triggering random effects. Moving a fader would fire FX, hitting a headphone cue (which I didn’t even map) would trigger other controls. Completely unpredictable.
At this point I just need a reliable fix. This setup is too common in clubs for it to keep throwing me off every time I step into a different booth is there anything in the pipeline about this being implemented? Oh my gosh, yes please, yes please. We needed this yesterday.
