Echo FX audio dropout with FLX10

iPad Pro 12.9" 2022 6th Gen

  • Version of operating system IOS 18.4
  • Version of djay 5.3.1
  • Hardware/controllers used FLX10.

Just received my new FLX10 and coming from Mixon 8.

I am on the FLX10 I have these settings on the FX section.

Please watch this video to hear the issue. audio drop out.

FYI , the same thing happens when I use the iPad to turn on that effect. However, when I unplug the iPad from the controller, the problem disappears.

Hi @Nubium, thanks for creating a new topic for this and for sharing the video - this is very helpful! I’ve passed this onto our hardware team to see if they can replicate this and offer any suggestions.

Hi @Nubium, this is not actually a dropout, it’s the delay behaving as it logically should.

  1. You have the Wet/Dry knob set to 100% wet, so when you activate the Echo you don’t hear anything at first, since you’re only getting the Wet signal and it takes that 1 beat for the delay to “fill up”.
  2. The quick fix is to set the knob to the middle instead of all the way to the right when using the Echo FX.
  3. The engineering team is looking into options to adjust the echo behavior in the future, but for now the 50% W/D should solve your issue.

I understand what you’re saying, however from a musical perspective, it doesn’t make sense for it to do that. I’ve done a lot of live sound, and used effects on a different lot of mixers, and none of them would behave like that. But thank you for your fast reply.

You’re welcome @Nubium

Hi again @Nubium, all common ways of implementing a delay in a live sound mixing setup don’t easily let you set 100% Wet 0% Dry - usually you get 50/50 at most. Either way, the dev team is actively investigating options to make this Echo FX behave differently. I’ll report back when we have more news to share.

Is it me or should the beat FX (echo) stay active (tailgate out) even after fading out or cutting the audio? @Slak_Jaw

Hi @megaman24, do you have your FX Routing set to Post-Fader?

I will definitely check it out later today! Thanks for pointing that out to me!

I checked and it does say Post-Fader but unfortunately it still cuts out when I fade / cut out. Any other ideas? This is a big one for transitioning. Thanks

I found the issue! I recorded it (attached). So the efx stays active post-fader if no stems are activated, but when I activate only a stem, the efx stops working, so this is definitely a software issue/limitation. If we can patch this up, that would be awesome! Thanks @Slak_Jaw

Hi @megaman24, this is expected behavior when using Neural Mix as these need to be processed pre-fader. For an echo on the Neural Mix part you could try using the new Mute FX.

Ok, awesome. I can work with this to a limit but there is still a limitation/bug when I use the FX Part Select when using the Beat FX function. Video attached. Real-life example would be transitioning to another song on deck 2 while having all parts playing on deck 1 then activating Beat FX w-Vocal Stem only and cutting out quickly, yet only hearing the echo tail out with the vocals stem vs all parts. @Slak_Jaw

Hi again @megaman24, yes, this is currently a limitation with using Neural Mix parts and post-fader FX. Our dev team is aware of this already and investigating options, but for now this is the limitation. I hope that helps.

Ok, thanks for the update. Much appreciated! @Slak_Jaw
