I converted from Serato, using Djay Pro full time using Hercules T7, Reloop Ready, and Pioneer flx10. With exception to waveforms on the flx10 jogs, Djay Pro works great and I’m happy I made the switch.
I’d like to get a pair of Pioneer crss12 and a mixer that plays nice with Djay Pro.
I’ve searched the forum and YT videos. A lot of compatibility posts are outdated so I’m looking for anyone that has direct experience with battle mixers. I’ve seen the list of Mac compatible mixers, but this message is to non-controller, battle mixer users that have direct experience.
Here are my requirements for the mixer:
iOS and Mac (later versions)
full functionality of hardware FX and crossfader FX including neural FX (specifically vocal sustain neural FX)
plays nice with crss 12
It looks like flagship mixers like s11 and seventy two have issues. The Elite seems most qualified but I prefer paddles.
That said, I don’t mind s9 or even an s7 if 100% functionality is there. The Rane seventy currently has my eye for a ton of reasons, but to the original point of the post…
By your direct experience, what mixers offer 100% functionality of Djay Pro?
Any learnings you can offer in my research?
If you made it this far, thanks for reading…and thanks for your input since I feel like I’ve exhausted all my online resources.
Hi @d.Jaebren, I can’t recommend anything out of personal experience, but we do have a list that you might find helpful if you haven’t already seen it:
Yup, I’ve seen the list. I have also noticed that while some controllers and mixers are on lists, there are quirky things that prevent full functionality.
My message is to those who have direct experience with battle mixers so I can avoid pitfalls.
I have a DJM-S5 and I haven’t been happy with the integration, it’s often a hassle to get the connection between software and unit right (DVS works often, but sometimes it goes to the wrong deck and I have to reset for example. I’m not aware if the same is true for the DJM-S7, but for me it was the reason to upgrade to Rane Seventy instead of S7.
That said, I’m really impressed with the Rane and the integration. It works superbly on both iOS and Mac. Hardware FX are amazing and stem control is awesome, especially since the latest upgrade 5.3. By default the parameter buttons are mapped like vocal echo out or instrumental echo out, the full control of the stems is under the transport pad mode.
As far as I know both Neural Mix EQ and Crossfader FX are not available, since it’s an external mixer and the software doesn’t read the knobs/crossfader. At least I didn’t get it to work.
All in all highly recommend the Rane (despite that it’s huuuge). If you have any questions or want to test something, let me know and I’ll try it out. I don’t own plx12 though.
Excellent feedback since the Rane seventy was top on my list.
I think I have to give up the idea of an external mixer, unfortunately. In a perfect world, an external mixer would have Neural Mix EQ and Crossfader FX functionality. From what I’ve been reading, only controllers get those features to work.
Edit:
I recall reading this article. From your experience, neural mix doesn’t work with Rane seventy?
If I were looking for a battle mixer that has paddles to use strictly with Djay Pro, I’d go for the Rane 70.
The CRSS12 is well supported. I think I remapped the stem on/off toggles to match Serato’s ordering, but everything else worked great!
If you really want neural mix using knobs, I think you could use something like the midi fighter twister. I have a midi fighter twister and I’m going to give this a try soon. I can let you know how it goes.
Before I switched from Serato, I was hooked on the Rane 72. Since the screen is useless in Djay, 70 it is.
Please do circle back on how the twister works out. I have a Hercules T7 and I don’t want to give up knobs on the controller for neural stems. I just ordered an akai lpd8. I hope to map the knobs to neural stems and use the pads for fx. I don’t see why it wouldn’t work.
An external mixer (70), crss 12s, and Akai lpd8 would be a better than great set up, but I wonder if Djay will play nice with that set up when it comes to neural stems on the lpd8.
