Hi All

I’m currently considering a Rane Four to run my Djay Pro Software upgrading from my Reloop Mixon 8

I’ve trawled through numerous posts on here and it seems the general feedback is a positive one with the Four and Performer in terms of functionality with DJP software

I have a couple of questions I’m hoping somebody can answer. The Software effects, circled below (Item 2 on the Rane manual) am I right in saying these are the 3 “Instant” effects you can change and select within the DJP software, not the pad effects but the 3 instant effects you can map to the NM instruments or all the track?

Also when you use the Stem Seperation, button 8 and 9 does the softwate default to 4 channel view or can you still use this feature whilst in 2 channel mode in the software. I’m presuming just with the 2 channel view so not seeing the individual wave files for the seperated vocal, say channels 2 and 4?

Finally anything I should look for, be aware of, or doesn’t work too well with the Rane or would you reccomend it? There is little online for the Four with DJP, more so the Performance which to me looks very similar bar the Motorised Jogs so I’m hoping the “plug and play” funcionality is pretty good as I’m no expert with mapping generally and my existing controller is designed for DJP with it’s layout

All comments welcome as need to make a pretty quick decision on this

Thanks

Cuzer

I can’t answer your question about the effects, as I just use the hardware effects on the mixer section. They’re more than good enough for what I need.

I can however tell you a few things that bug me slightly about the Performer. Stuff I wish I’d known before buying it. Overall it’s a fantastic bit of kit and I’m more than happy that I bought it. But there are minor issues.

First, it seems a simple thing to have missed before buying it, but the VU meters being on the right hand side of the eq’s has really thrown me at times. I had a Denon X1800 mixer before and the VU meters were on the left. I looked at pictures of the Performer for months before buying it and never even noticed. To be fair, this is a ‘me’ problem rather than anything wrong with the unit, it just takes a bit of time to get used to, especially if you try to use 4 decks..

Second, if your looking to ‘Assign sampler to Channel 4’ then I don’t think you can’t do that. The button is there and can be mapped to something else, but it’s a limitation of the software, I think. I used to love using the sampler for one shots and adding some echo or reverb to them on my previous mixer.

I’ve also not found a way of previewing the Looper, which I used to use more with my previous set up.

The screens can still be a little bit flaky at times, but they’ve improved in the last few updates.

That’s all the little stuff I’ve found that I’ve found.

Midi mapping may be an option to look into, I have the Rane Performer and it is a solid piece for DJay Pro, not giving that 100% solid answer because I notice there are certain midi mappings that are an “of choice type” for the dj that has that certain feel to how their equipment performs.

Thanks for the input @Thomas.Swift

For the rane performer, you can use either the on board effects or the DJP effects. I actually really like the RP on board effects much better. The accapella and instrumental stems buttons work on the track the you have music assigned regardless of what channel it is routed to. You can also split the accapella to a separate track if you prefer. I hope this helps😊

Thanks for confirming this nd I presume you map the. To the six buttons I referenced above? and just choose between hardware and software?

Thanks again

Cuzer

Yes, you can assign the effects and parameters to each of the six buttons.

Thanks for confirming

I went back to serato! I have rane four but without midi mapping is useless for me. Sadly do not see many tutorials on this online or anywhere. why have acapella and instrumental buttons if i can use them? also do not like search function, to crowded and small, and I completely understand that people love this software but just didnt work for me, and also kept crashing. For those that have full understanding and it works for you, I salute you and are happy for you. I will say the latency, and beat grids is second to none!!
