Fix when phrases go out of usual numbering?

If phrases go out of usual numbering on the grid, because there is an odd bar in the track, example bar 1-16 > Bar 17 small break > next phrase starts on bar 18, is there still a way to sync effectively. In this case any mix will always be 1 bar out. It’s very annoying.

How would you expect it to work? If one track has an odd number of bars and the other track has even bars, how would they mix together?

It seems a bar would either need to be added or removed in order to make the count equal on both tracks - but then the original track structure is changed.

HI @N_C,

Did you mean Bars (=4 beats) or one single Beat?
(in my response below I am referring to single beats).

If everything followed the same rigid musical structure, music would be boring.
A gap of one or two counts/beats is simply part of the game — and honestly, these irregular bars add musical dynamics and a sense of playfulness for me.

Yes, the beat count gets thrown off after such an extra count, but if you’ve set your phrasing cues (see below) to 1 beat, it’s no problem to mix these tracks — as long as you, as a DJ, know how to count.

Hope this helps?

It’s the grid numbering that is the issue. If there was no grid, no sync available, if you were just using your ears there would be no issue, I never had this issue before I started using software (recently), you just cue in at the start of a phrase. I just dont know how to do that with sync because it locks onto the outgoing grid phrasing/numbering and so it a bar out, as in not cued at the start of the phrase but one bar in.

I know what I mean lol, its quite simple, even if I cant explain it simply. Sorry.

Ok, it might be I have it set to 4 beats. I’ll check. As is being able to count is not the issue. Also I’m in no way looking for a debate on musical structure, I’m simply asking a technical question about how to use sync without having this issue, if its possible - I’m fairly new to using software for DJing, so I’m not entirely sure what is and is not possible, hence my question.

Ok, the 4 beat setting was the issue, rookie mistake I guess, but just so many settings, fixed now, great. Much thanks.

No worries at all - we’ve all been there! Glad to hear it was just the 4-beat setting and that it’s sorted now. Happy to help anytime and enjoy the mix!
