Grid EQ no longer working

MacOS, DJAY Pro 5.6.9

The ‘Grid EQ’ visual effect hasn’t been working for several recent versions of the software. The effect when working provided an overlay on the playing video which animated semi-transparent blocks rising from the bottom according to the waveform, somewhat emulating a spectrum analyzer. Now it does nothing other than dim the entire video display when the effect is turned on, suggesting that its semi-transparent layer is overlayed across the entire screen and non-animated. I’m open to suggestions to fix if for some reason I’ve mis-remembered how to operate the effect, but I’ve tried adjusting both the intensity slider and the dry/wet rotary, neither producing any changes.

Hi @djsteve, when creating new topics, please do not forget to answer the questions in our template with specific details about your setup not just “iPad” or “Latest Version”. This helps all of our community moderators to provide the most effective support to users with the utmost efficiency. Thanks!

Since this sounds repeatable, can you please capture and share a short screen recording of the issue to help clarify what’s happening? Thanks!

Hello! It’s been a week since my last reply. I’m going to consider this topic completed for now so I can focus on others. However, please feel free to respond and we can definitely revisit this. Thanks!

Since the feature is entirely not working now, I’m unsure of what else I can provide to assist you. The video EQ effect does nothing but slightly dim the display. It worked many, many software revisions ago but does not now. It should be easily repeatable. If it is considered working as intended, please provide guidance on how to properly operate. As noted, this is on MacOS (no specific version to cause error, but currently on 27.01) and DJay Pro 5.6.9

Hi again @djsteve, thanks for the additional setup details. You’ve described it clearly enough, so a video is probably not needed. I’ll try to reproduce Grid EQ on my end with djay 5.6.9 on macOS 27.

I have a few follow up questions as well:

  1. Which Mac model are you on (e.g. 2023 MacBook Pro M3)?
  2. Are you using any DJ hardware at all?
  3. Is the FX D/W dial set somewhere above the minimum (Dry)?
  4. Are you using the Grid EQ FX on a music video or an audio-only track?
  5. Are all of the other Visual FX working as expected?
  6. Do you recall the last version of djay and macOS that this was working as expected on?

Thanks!

Hi again @djsteve, I’m following up on my post from a week ago.
