Help me decide between Rane Performer and Pioneer DDJ REV7

Hi all, this is my first post so please bear with me. I need help deciding between the Rane Performer and the Pioneer DDJ Rev7. I’m clear that I want motorized jog wheels, but I’ve never used 4 channels, so it’s not a requirement for me. I prefer the Rane because it has an internal power supply, the motorized jog wheels are a bit larger, the tempo slider is in a conventional (vertical) position, and it also has feet… The Rev7 is a bit lighter, the hardware effects are better, and I think it retains its value better over time, but it has been on the market for almost four years. To make things even more complicated… the Rane One MK2 is coming out in the summer, but I can’t wait that long, so I’ve ruled it out. Can you please help me choose between the Performer and the Rev7 for Djay Pro?

Sounds to me like you’ve already chosen the Performer. Go for it!

Not really, the Pioneer also has DMX output which is a plus as I have DMX lights

I have the Rane Performer and I love it. The onboard effects are great. You think the Rev7 effects are better? I also love the build quality of the RP. DMX output for the Rev7 is a good one.

Are you sure Rev 7 has DMX output? I know the Flx 10 does but that’s the only one that had DMX out put to my knowledge. Rane performer also has screens working with djay pro where as Rev 7 doesn’t . Rev 7 is 2 channel mixer with Perforner having 4 with stem control. Of course you will also need a Mac powerful enough to utilise all that djay has to offer. At least M1 and above. Good luck with your choice.

Yes you’re right my fault I was talking about the FLX10 which has DMX but no motorised jog wheels, so not for me. I though the REV7 had full integration with Djay Pro regarding the screens… I have a MacBook Air M1 (Sequoia 15.3.1) which so far works fine with Djay Pro. Is it easy to use FX with stems with both the Performer and the Rev7?

The rev 7 came out before stems were fully integrated into controllers. You could map it quite easily how you want it. The performer has stem control functionality built in with acapella/instrumental buttons, eq/stem labelling, and split stem control. If it was me I would go performer. I understand your thinking that pioneer will retain value but performer takes the lead with overall features and functions to suit djay pro.

Thanks to all, I guess we have a winner… could any Performer user recommend a trolly for that? It’s quite heavy and I’m too old

I don’t have a Rane performer but there are people here with them. I’m sure you’ll get a response. If not a good old google search may help :sunglasses::sunglasses:. Let us know how you get on when you purchase your controller.

Thanks and sure I’ve googled it, but nothing as a real user advice for that, don’t you agree?

Regarde ma chaîne TikTok il y a plusieurs configuration  TikTok - Make Your Day

I use the Rane Performer with with Djay Pro and love it. It can do everything the rev 7 can and more at the same price. It also has dedicated stems buttons and the stem split feature (instant splitting of scapula and instrumental over two decks) is super fun and opens up all sorts of possibilities.

Many thanks, I finally got the Performer and so far I’m loving it.

How’s the stem split feature. Does it respond well?

TLDR: I would go for the Rane Performer in retrospect. I have the Rev7, and hit one issue I’ve grown into is with stems. Without a third channel, you have to pull out of a mix with an acappella or stem early enough to load the next track because the Rev7 only has two channels. I don’t often do mashups, but when I do find tracks that work really well, I’m currently doing the mashup in ableton, but it sure would be nice to have another channel to just let two stem tracks ride out while I mix in the next track.

Yes, it works fine for me and as Wuli says to have a third channel to do mashups is awesome :raised_hands:t2:

For travel, I picked up the Jetpack Glide System. It’s very cool - has roller wheels and a separate compartment for your laptop. Lots of room for your cables, etc.
