How to automatically set the active deck (selected deck) when loading a song?

  • Device model: Macbook Air M3 2024
  • Version of operating system: 15.1
  • Version of djay: 5.2.5
  • Hardware/controllers used (e.g. Reloop Mixon 8 Pro): None

Your question:
Is there a way to automatically make the deck “the active deck” (selected deck) when loading a song?
I can’t find a setting that allows this. I need it so that my shortcuts work immediately without having to manually change the active deck and thus avoid accidentally pausing on the currently playing deck.

Appreciative of any help.

Hi @Manuel_Alejandro, there is no setting for this. Djay automatically determines the active deck based on the Crossfader position (opposite side of where the Crossfader last touched the edge).

I’m back on this topic. In my case, I just need the “selected deck” to be determined when a song is loaded automatically. Not to be confused with the “active deck.” The latter doesn’t affect shortcuts.

A forced way could be to configure a button that when loading a song in Deck X, also activates Deck X as “Selected Deck”, but I think there is currently no way to execute multiple actions with a single button.

Thanks for the follow up @Manuel_Alejandro. I’ve passed this onto the dev team for review.

Hi again @Manuel_Alejandro, perhaps this will help. If your R-click on a MIDI command you can access a menu that includes Duplicate Mapping for Control. This allows you to MIDI map multiple controls to a single button. The screenshot below is from Windows, but it should be pretty similar on macOS. I believe this should allow achieve what you are looking for.

It works using some midi controller but the selected deck is only “active” for the midi controller and not for the shortcuts (with keyboard).

In other words: if I select active deck 2 with midi, the active deck for shortcuts remains deck 1.

Okay thanks for the additional info @Manuel_Alejandro. I’ll pass this into the team to see what they think. I’ll report back soon.
