Hi @johnnyboyx, nothing has changed with iCloud on our side. Please note that djay can only play a file that’s physically downloaded to the iPad, so anything living only in iCloud Drive shows greyed out. The reason they go grey again after a relaunch is iPadOS: when storage gets tight it offloads local copies of iCloud Drive files on its own, and djay just sees them as unavailable.
The fix is on the Files app side:
Open Files > iCloud Drive, touch and hold your music folder, tap Download Now, and wait for it to finish.
Touch and hold the same folder again and enable Keep Downloaded so iPadOS stops evicting it.
Re-add it in djay if needed via Files > + > Add Folder.
If your collection is big, the more reliable route is keeping it in On My iPad or on an external SSD rather than iCloud Drive. Worth noting djay never copies your music — it only references the original location, so wherever those files sit needs to stay available.
Could you also please fill in your iPadOS and djay versions numbers plus your free storage space available? That’ll tell us whether this is purely the offloading behaviour or something else. I hope that helps!
have ipad pro M1 2019. and have already made a old hdd to exFAT formatted and workd fine that way, there is a ssd on the way to use that ..the HDD was just for testing. and can switch now easely form pc to ipad. so thkx for advice … only have an othe problem wiht midi mapping files .. i copied from ipad to pc but the midi devices like lauch control xl has no action showing . but control and target does show… version are the same of djay, names of file also the same as device.. tried add new file with 1 controllerr slider .copied the hole text form ipad file to pc file but also same result so dont know whats going one here. ..
but if i donwload all music to my ipad .. what is the use if having a cloud if i still need a second copy of al music on my ipad ?? , than better directly play form internal storage than a cloud.its faster and no internet issues that can occure..but it worked very good from the icloud. why this is change ….no idea.
Hi again @johnnyboyx. These are two separate things, which is where the confusion usually starts. djay’s iCloud sync only carries cue points, loop regions, and Automix start and end points between your Mac and iPad. It has never synced the music files themselves.
The files side works differently. On iOS, djay reads tracks through the Files app, and a track has to be fully downloaded to the device before it will play. That applies to iCloud Drive and to any other cloud provider. The one bit of good news: djay doesn’t copy anything into its own library, it just references the original location, so you’re not storing a second copy inside djay itself.
Now here’s the part that I suspect is behind your “it used to work” experience. iCloud Drive doesn’t leave your files alone. When a device runs low on free space, it removes the local copy and keeps the file in iCloud only. Apple’s own wording is that older documents get stored in iCloud when space is needed. The track still appears in the folder, so nothing looks wrong, but the audio isn’t actually on the device until it downloads again. Something that played fine last month can quietly become cloud-only after you install a big app or shoot a lot of video.
Honestly, for anything gig-critical I’d keep the set on internal storage or an external drive and let iCloud Sync handle just the cue point and loop sync. One less thing that can decide to change its mind an hour before doors. I hope that helps!
