Brand new here. What is the best way to import my library in to DeeJay. The library from my hard drive and also new music. I want to do my organizing inside of DeeJay and not iTunes. Thank you for any help…
I would like to know this too, I do have a workaround in the meantime, but I’m pretty sure there is a easy way,
As far as I know, it has to be put through iTunes and then Djay reads it off that.
I hope that is not the only way. Hopefully they have or will have an auto import feature like Serato. Im excited to use DeeJay but I like my crate structure the normal way in the software.
*** For macOS ONLY ***:
-
To import to My Collection - drag from 1. the Finder in macOS or 2. My Files in djay.
-
Under Settings > Library - Import, you can set folders to monitor for new files.
Hi Michael, I dont think that feature works, Ive added folders into the import section as shown in your picture, but nothing happens, it seems like its missing a “Analyse” button underneath???
this is where Im stuck on, I wondered if someone can shed some light on how to do this.
My work around is drag newer songs to my collection and that some how adds new tracks to my DJay Library but just not in my crates or files section.
Good question, I’m not sure exactly when djay Pro “checks for new files” (macOS only). Here are some things to try:
- ⌘R - Refresh Library
- Re-start the software.
-
Analyze Songs from the main screen.
Thank you Michael I appreciate your reply,
I also analyse my whole collection,
- Device model Macbook Pro:
- Version of operating system Sonoma:
- Version of djay Djay 5.2.3:
- Hardware/controllers used “offline mode no controller”:
I’m also on Mac pro, To be honest at least Mac Version has a lot more features including crate import compared to the windows version. I just gave up on the windows version cause it seems incomplete, I also feel like the Mac version is more stable.
What bothers me is the lack of tutorial videos on YouTube about important features like Library management.
I love DJay pro but it seems like an on going thing with Serato and DJay pro, I use a simple app called “Itch Sync”
It copies 1 to 1 of all my folders on my DJ drive to Crates,
I organise my folders how I want my crates to look like, then I use this app to convert all my folders including subfolders into crates and sub-crates, its such a simple Java app but its very powerful,
when I add new songs to my folders or delete files or rename them, I run the app and vwalla, all my tracks are updated in Serato.
I just wish Serato or DJay has a similar type of app that would make DJs lives much easier.
I don’t want to speculate, but a simple library management tool can be created by DJay or implement it into the software,
Wouldn’t it make sense to make DJs switching from other DJ software’s easy? I know a lot of DJs have not made the Switch To DJay pro because of Library management issues,
DJay is an amazing DJ software, This is from a long time Serato user,
I went from Vinyl to CDs, To Serato and now DJay Pro. DJay is now my primary choice and Serato is my backup.
Yes, I think this is the best practice. Organizing a DJ Library outside of DJ software is always more flexible and reliable. My library doesn’t depend on any DJ software, so I can switch over at a moment’s notice.
We don’t know if Algoriddim
a. will give us a better DJ Library
b. even if they do, we don’t know WHEN that will happen
c. and if we get it, we don’t know if it will work for us
So, in the meantime, better to roll your own and use tools that are currently available.
Totally Agree Michael, I’ve always looked at other means through the net,
But I love DJay, Its made my DJ life so much easier:)
I appreciate your help Michael:)
ok, so what is the best option then? does the import Serato Crates work well? I was going to do it, but it says change file location. I was not sure what that would do to my Serato.
DJay needs to know the location of your crates, for example my library is on an external drive, So my location is what You named your external hard drive, I named my one “DJ Hard drive” in my root folder I have my 2 serato folders, basically where your “Serato” and “Serato_Backup” folders are,
If your music is on your internal laptop hard drive, Then the “Location” of your crates is in the “Music” folder you should find the two folders “Serato” and “Serato_Backup” in there,
DJay only reads the crates and does not change anything to your Serato crates.
Well, that did not go well. It half imported my crates, with no smart crates…there has to be a better way. I’m willing to reorganize my library with smart crates, I just need to get my music in there.
I dont think it imports smart crates but I see that you can create smartcrates, I have not used this feature cause I dont use smart crates,
unfortunately there isn’t, I have searched the internet, even read DJay user manual about the software and there’s nothing on there.
If your DJ folders were setup like your crates, then you could’ve just used DJays file browsers to DJ, You have to make do with what DJay has,
dont forget once you loaded all your files to DJay, you have to analyse them all.
so, I just dragged all the music from my music into djay. this seems to be the best way. I basically do 99% of my smart crates by genre , so it wasn’t to bad. the only thing I did not like, was that that I had to tag every genre group. for example, I might have the same track in EDM and in dance and Latin house, but its really a Latin House track that will work in all 3 sets. so I have to check all 3 boxes. Latin house…latin House/EDM…Latin House/Dance, instead of just checking Latin House. I had to recheck my smart crates to make sure I did not miss a check. but other than that…pretty good.
