Individual Sort Order per Playlist + Persistent Sorting in Search

Title: [Suggestion] Individual Sort Order per Playlist in “My Collection” + Persistent Sorting in Search

Device model: MacBook M1 Pro (2021)

OS version: macOS 15.4

djay version: 5.3

Hi team,

I’d like to suggest a usability improvement for playlist sorting in the “My Collection” section of djay Pro.

Currently, when I click on a column (e.g., “Date Added”, “BPM”, or “Title”) to sort a playlist, this sorting method is applied globally — across all playlists and views. This can be frustrating in real-world use.

Use Case Example:

• I have a playlist called “New Downloads”, where I want tracks sorted by Date Added (Newest to Oldest).

• I also have a playlist called “Routine Ultimate Mix”, where I’ve carefully arranged songs in a specific custom order (e.g., a performance flow from Track 1 to Track 20).

Unfortunately, if I sort “New Downloads” by Date Added, then switch to “Routine Ultimate Mix”, it also gets sorted by Date Added — losing my manual arrangement. The same happens if I sort by BPM, Key, etc.

Additional Note – Search Behavior:

This issue is even more noticeable when using the search bar (CMD + F).

When the search field pops up, it’s extremely important for me that the search results stay sorted by Date Added (newest to oldest). However, the search view doesn’t retain any previous sort order — it either ignores it completely or resets to a default state every time I use it.

This means I constantly have to re-click the sort column (e.g., “Date Added”) after every new search after exiting the search field with ESC and re-entering with cmd+f, which interrupts my workflow and is especially inefficient during live sets.

Suggestion:

Please consider the following improvements:

  1. Allow individual sort orders per playlist within “My Collection” — each playlist should remember its own sorting preference.

  2. Allow individual sort orders within “Search” Section.

These changes would dramatically improve usability and library management, especially for DJs working with large libraries and detailed set preparations.

Thanks for the suggestion @djessa. Good ideas. I have forwarded this to the dev team for consideration.

Thank you for getting back to me after six months — great service!
Do you think this feature will be implemented into the main library? It would be awesome to have separate, sortable columns within crates and playlists.

You’re welcome @djessa. I’m not sure what the dev team has planned for this, but it’s possible.

YES please with EXTRA CHEESE, would love this feature in the next update making sets is a bit of a nightmare custom sorting then sorting by bpm or key then going back n forth in the list

Thanks for the input @Owe_Marley

Long time no new update. When can we expect a new update? I guess it might be a big one…

We don’t have any news to share regarding the release date for the next update. It will be released when it is ready and has finished beta testing. Thanks!

Hi @djessa, 5.6.2 was released on Monday in case you missed it.

Hi guys, I can’t find what I’m looking for, so I guess a feature I find very convenient for managing playlists is missing.
For example, in rekordbox, I can sort a playlist based on many factors, just like in djpro, for example, by ascending bpm, or by key, or simply alphabetically. Nothing strange so far; it can also be done in djpro and many other software. What’s missing, however, is the ability to save that single playlist in the order I want. Maybe it’s the Reggaeton playlist and I want it in ascending bpm order. However, I’d like the next playlist in alphabetical order. Well, what I noticed in djpro is that if you change the order of a playlist, it changes the order of all the other playlists.
In traktor, for example, it doesn’t ask you to save the order you’ve put a playlist in, but when you exit that playlist, it remembers your preference. If you then move on to the next playlist, it’ll be in the order you used, and so on.
This thing about DJ Pro: if I want the playlist to be in BPM order, and then switch to the house playlist, and I end up with the BPM order, when I actually want it alphabetical, is something that could easily be avoided. Also, because often, I don’t have a PC conveniently located to change the order, or maybe I’m doing an open-format set that requires quick changes, I don’t have to waste time changing the order of the tracks every time I switch between different playlists, but I’d like to find them already as I had them organized.
I think it’s a very simple thing to fix.

Hi @Screma, I’ve merged your new topic with this existing one as they seem closely related. Please vote above.

In the meantime, you could sort your playlist as desired (ex. by BPM) then select Add All to Playlist… and export the songs into a new BPM sorted playlist.

I hadn’t seen this topic; it didn’t appear in the suggestions. But I don’t understand what you mean, because what I’m asking for is pretty intuitive: that each playlist remembers how I want it to be arranged, without affecting the others.

I understand your suggestion and it’s very similar to this one.

What I’m proposing is a workaround in the meantime, is for you to sort your playlist as desired, then add it to a new playlist so it appears in this sorted order next time you open it.

ok now it’s clear what you meant, but you understand well that I have something like 50 playlists  I really have everything from dinner, aperitif, to the 80s, 90s, 2000s… passing through hip hop, rnb, reggetton, dance, pop house etc… I can’t sit there redoing a new playlist every time I modify something… let’s hope they solve this problem all there.

Thanks for the additional explanation @Screma. I understand and have passed this onto our dev team for consideration.
