Hi @Slak_Jaw and thank you for your responsiveness. Thanks also for your screenshots. I did the test on an iPad mini, I bought it for that, and the choice of the iPad mini is voluntary because it is the format that is closest to a CDJ or XDJ-AZ screen , between 9" and 10". The iPad mini is 8.3" the iPad Air/Pro 11" could be suitable but the objective here is to keep a screen of reasonable size, neither too large nor too small, to be placed directly in front of the controller, in order to really find an efficient, clear and usable interface in real club conditions. the typical example is to use an FLX-10 with an iPad mini directly in front, which would make a sort of super XDJ-AZ with the advantage of having quality stems by algoriddim, in short the best of both worlds. As my test was inconclusive, I returned the iPad to the store and can therefore no longer take screenshots. I’m staying on iPhone for the moment because the rendering is closer with it, rather than on the iPad mini.
So if I compare your screenshots between iOS and iPadOS.
(I also have an iPhone 15 Pro Max).
1/ The view of horizontal wavforms in “hardware mode”:
The result is satisfactory for the size of the wavforms and the space they occupy on the screen, whether on iOS and iPadOS, but crucial information such as the bpm, its percentage and the tone key, should be much larger, immediately visible without searching where is it on screen. Compare with a CDJ-3000 or XDJ-AZ screen or even the Rekordbox iOS application, the difference is obvious and the useful information is immediately visible because it is larger.
(second point on this hardware mode view with the horizontal wavforms: when using a controller, on which we use the pad mode to trigger hotcue, beatjumps, padfx, etc., it would be great to a panel appears for each deck to see what you can throw on each page of the pads. Otherwise you have to do everything from your brain ( you have the feeling of being a little blindly ) or display them by touching the screen. Too long. And touch again to hide/switch them to another pad mode. Too long).
2/ the library navigation view:
We see it in your screenshots. the name of the playlist “melodic / progressive house” is truncated in the left panel and therefore with longer playlist names, the only way to read them in full is to enter it, whereas if there is no left and right panel but only one panel (like on iPhone) the problem would not exist since the name would occupy all the horizontal space. The ideal would be to be able to choose whether you want to navigate with 2 or 1 panel.
I would add that you have a 13" iPad, the resolution is larger and each panel therefore displays more content in width for each panel. On an iPad mini there is less space for the content. so clearly choosing the number of panels for navigation would be the best. with only 1 panel we find the same navigation as on a native XDJ screen. (and iPhone).
On an iPad mini you also have to increase the size of the text in the iPad settings, otherwise at an equal distance, between an iPhone and iPad, everything is smaller and less clearly visible on the iPad mini than on an iPhone 15 / 16 Pro Max.
In conclusion, we should perhaps be able to choose the rendering size on an iPad depending on whether we want a display like on iPhone/CDJ/XDJ or rather a more busy view with panels as if we were on a Macbook Pro. Since you cannot change the resolution of an iPad, djay pro would have to offer the desired view/zoom mode, depending on the interface you want to obtain. some on iPad will prefer a very busy view with panels everywhere like on a Macbook Pro, while some like me prefer an efficient view like in a club on CDJ (but with the power of algoriddim in an iPad mini).
Besides, I take this opportunity to suggest something else about the view of the tracks in playlist : It would be really great to be able to choose to display other columns such as the number of popularity stars, but also the preview wavform, which you already offer in an actionable sub-panel with the “…” to the right of each track. The ideal would be to have them directly in the list without additional clicking. On stage we don’t have time to open each panel for each song to preview the waveform. The information should be immediately visible when browsing a playlist. And of course being able to choose the desired columns so that everyone displays what they want to display. (It would also be a double advantage to switch to “1 single navigation panel” mode since we would then have the entire width of the screen to display more columns for each song).
If something is not clear, do not hesitate I can complete it to clarify.
THANKS.
