Is djay good for beginners?

Hi everyone that reads this. I’m a new dj, and wondering if this software is good for beginners? Currently my ddj-flx4 didn’t arrive yet but is this good? When I was learning how, the guy giving me lessons was using Serato DJ Pro. Since I’m used to that, will I get how to use this software?

Hi @DJ_DoubleDigits, welcome to the Community! Personally, I think djay is great for beginners. On iOS, we even have a view mode called Starter that greatly simplifies the user interface while you are learning.

We also include a free DJ School within the djay with several tutorial videos:

Also, I can confirm that the FLX4 is officially supported by djay on iOS.

Essentially, the setup is very similar, so in that respect, one piece of software is as good or as bad as the next. In my opinion, Djay’s main advantage is still that you can use it with an iPhone and iPad. If I wanted to use a laptop as well, I’d probably consider other options. But of course, that depends entirely on personal preference.

Thanks for sharing @Chris_R

Agreed - One advantage to using djay Pro initially is that you subscribe for a small fee, so if you don’t like it, just cancel the sub.

I would suggest trying it along with other DJ software though, to make your own decision about which one is best (for you). Don’t get hung up on what others are using.

i started on a denon f-1200n once upon a dj booth. with a soundmixer to dj on.

i tell you this is a dream.

djay pro is TOP NOTCH for the price you pay, and even then, still TN.

ive used all to some degree since the early traktor days. this is what i dreamt about in the 90s i could do as a dj.

welcome aboard aspiring captain, now skipper?

dj skipper. lets cut and mix some!

Thanks for the input @AndyBoPandy

Thanks, everyone! As I type I am mixing song just for the heck of it. In Pro mode it looks kind of like Serato DJ Pro.

You’re welcome @DJ_DoubleDigits

Top Tip:

Your serato cues and loops will be seen by djay as long as you prepped track in serato first b4 using in djay. You might have noted that already.
My work flow is:

  1. Download a song and first drop to serato and organise cues/loops
  2. Import same song to djay (simple drag-n-drop) and analyse
  3. :white_check_mark:
  4. In this way, i can flexibly use same libray either side, whenever the meed dictates. Actually my serato crates md djay playlists are mirrored
