Is there any way to split audio between headphones and Apple TV streaming ?

I have an Apple TV hook up to my home audio system and some headphones. Is there any way to split audio output so that music can play out via Apple TV and I can pre-queue music using headphones?

Yes, but not wirelessly via AirPlay. You can use an additional audio interface and then just connect directly to your home audio system. Please see the following article on how to use multiple audio devices.
