Issue with sorting through big folder by BPM

2024 HP laptop
Windows 11 home
Djay pro AI (whatever the latest for windows is)
Djm s9 w phase DJ

Hey y’all! So i wanted to see if the algoriddim team or anyone else could help me out with this situation. I have been trying djay pro on windows, and coming from virtual dj/serato: i love it, but there’s an issue with the library that’s kind of annoying lol. So i tend to sort by BPM, and currently i browse through tracks using explorer/browser (ie. Downloads > bpm supreme > etc.). When i go into a folder, its not automatically sorted by BPM (like it takes a little bit before everything gets sorted correctly). Is there a workaround for this?

I should probably mention that the folder that im trying to find stuff from has 6k tracks if that helps.

Hi @Beepboop00, thanks for the details about your setup and the issue.

  1. Can you please share your exact djay version number found at the bottom of the djay Settings window?
  2. Please provide more details about your 2024 HP laptop as well.
  3. Can you also capture a short video of the issue, upload it to your Google Drive/Dropbox, enable sharing permissions, then share a link to the video here? Thanks!

Djay pro version 5.2.11228.0

13th gen intel i5 with 8 GB of ram

@Slak_Jaw sorry i forgot to mention you!

Hi @Beepboop00, thanks for the video and additional details about your hardware and djay version. This is very helpful. Are the songs in this folder stored on your laptop internal drive or on an external drive? Thanks!

So this is on the internal drive (no external drive connected!)

Edit: @Slak_Jaw so its sort of fixed if i use the djay collection, but the search takes ages to look through (if im searching the whole collection).

Okay, thanks for the additional info @Beepboop00. I have passed this onto the engineering team to see if this helps them replicate what you’re experiencing.

So i should probably give more info! I have tried it in both file explorer and the djay collection. In the djay collection, once it sorts for the first time, all is well! But now im running into another problem: when i go to search for a song in my collection (similar to how one would search in serato/vdj/rb), it hangs BADLY (like im talking 30+ minutes to give me results). I do have 68k songs in the collection however

Okay thanks. I have passed this on as well.

Hi @Beepboop00, I spoke with engineering.

Regarding the Explorer source, at present this is expected behavior because to sort correctly it has to read all the metadata first from the files. So the larger the number of files, the longer it takes before it can read and finish the sort operation. My Collection is faster for this because the metadata is stored in our internal database, rather than being read from the file system.

Regarding the slow My Collection search - there is probably performance bottleneck somewhere. Could you please upload your djaymedialibrary database to your Google Drive/Dropbox, enable sharing permissions, then share a link to the it here or send it to me in a DM?
On Windows it can be found in %HOMEPATH%>Music>djay>djay Media Library.

Thanks!

@Slak_Jaw here is the folder as requested: i didn’t know which to send so i sent the media library folder  https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/lxzt68k60f5vp429ol7ls/AIjAIMX8wsnJzGf8dCLI9wk?rlkey=cwe0pyz1mrsdb8r9pg0o3xl91&st=7yezguuv&dl=0

Perfect. Thanks @Beepboop00, I have passed it onto engineering for further review.

Hi again @Beepboop00. With your My Collection search which search option to are you using? “Search My Collection” or “Search Playlist”?

@Slak_Jaw i am using “my playlist”, i have found that if i do it with “my collection”, it hangs. i normally use playlists to search, but sometimes i have too many playlists for a specific song im looking for so i search the whole collection and thats where it hangs for a while.

I will upload another video to explain better in a bit!

Thanks for the additional info @Beepboop00. This is very helpful. I’ll share this with the team. Looking forward to seeing your other video as well.

@Slak_Jaw here is the video :slight_smile: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/6zknwypida7ntxiwok456/Recording-2025-03-02-192159.mp4?rlkey=pyjoh0voape4ydh7jurs69995&st=f446kddp&dl=0

Thanks for the additional video @Beepboop00. This is very helpful. I’ve passed it onto the team for further review.

So: i have good news!

Good news: i was doing the search the wrong way (i.e. in the main music collection, i was searching through the playlist, not through my collection).

But now that I’ve gotten the hang of it, i wanted to inquire: in searching my collection: is there a way to make it filterable? Ie. By bpm + artist name or by genre etc?

@Slak_Jaw

Hi @Beepboop00, thanks for the update and good news. Currently there is no way to add search criteria or filters in djay for Windows.

Hi @Slak_Jaw awww, is there a way i can put it in as a feature request? And also: where would i post an issue where djay pro crashes? Tech support forum?

You’re welcome @Beepboop00. For feature requests, please create a new Suggestion topic.

For crashes, please submit an official support request using the procedure below so the engineering team can review your crash reports in more detail.

  1. Open the djay Pro app on your Windows PC.
  2. Select the top left icon in the corner of your screen to open the Settings menu.
  3. Scroll down and select “Contact Support”.
  4. Fill out the submission form that will pop up in your default browser and title your email "ATTN: MARIE – “The Title of your Community Topic” in the provided subject line.
