Large portable speakers as a PA

Has anyone here ever had experience with speakers like the Teufel Rockster or the Magnat Bulldog 7 at parties?

I haven’t used those, but I do have experience with the JBL Partybox 310 and the Soundboks 4.

And what is this experience like? Can you work with it reasonably well? I come from a generation where I’m used to having a stereo setup with the bass at the bottom and the mids and highs at a higher level. But I also know that today’s speakers are no longer comparable to the compact speakers of 20 years ago.

For smaller events both of these have worked great for me. The Soundboks goes louder and has the SKAA wireless capabilities. I used to have a big PA system that was a pain to haul around and setup. Battery powered units are way more convenient IMO. Just don’t expect the same performance as a full sized PA system. The Soundboks has a pole mount so you can set them on stands. If you need more low end, Eleven Engineering makes a battery powered SKAA wireless enabled sub called Death from Below. I don’t have one, but seems like an ideal fit with a Soundboks or 2.

Thanks for the review. I’ve got a Teufel Rockstar here on trial, and it really packs a punch. The speaker has been on the market since 2017, but I never really followed it. A few months ago, I was at a city festival and got to experience the speaker with a live band—and I was impressed by what just one speaker can deliver: not only loud, but also very pleasant sounding, at least to my ears. But good sound is also very subjective. In direct comparison with a Soundboks 4, the Rockstar has significantly more low bass.

You’re welcome @Chris_R

Here in Frankfurt there is a group who created a bicycle trailer with (if I’m not mistaken) 4 Teufel Rockster (+2 wireless on another bike  ) and a Pioneer opus quad. It looks like a Roman chariot. They use it for some raves and they take part in all street parades and demonstrations where music is allowed. These speakers in higher numbers are impressive!

You can see them very shortly here at 1:47 (with at least two rocksters:

Hi @Chris_R, here’s another potential contender for you:
