Left deck will only scrub through track

2021 IPad Pro
iOS 18.1.1
Djay 5.2.7
Tried with mixon 8, mixon 4 and ddj flx4. Same issue with all controllers.

This problem started for me last week. All midi settings are identical for left and right decks but when I turn the jogwheel on the left deck it moves quickly through the track instead of scratching. The right deck works normally. Does anyone have any experience with this issue? I have tried using three different controllers and they all behave the same way. Any help would be greatly appreciated it’s driving me crazy

Summary of the issue:

How to reproduce the issue:

Hi @Trevrolet, welcome to the Community.

  1. How exactly are you connecting your iPad to the various DJ controllers?
  2. Have you tried a different USB cable?
  3. Is your iPad also connected to power and charging normally?
  4. Are your DJ controllers also connected to power with their supplied adapters or are you trying to power them off you iPad internal battery?
  5. Are you using the (built-in) MIDI Mappings for these controllers or custom edits?

EDIT:

  1. Please also check to see if your left jogwheel is in CDJ or Vinyl Mode. On the Mixon 8 this is done by pressing SHIFT+SLIP.
  2. Do you have another iOS device like an iPhone that you could test?
  1. I have a couple different usb hubs that I have been using over the past year or two and have always worked fine. I use them connected to power to charge the iPad and also use a usb b cable from the hub to the controllers.

  2. Yes I have tried different cables, same issue.

  3. iPad is connected to power and charging normally.

  4. Controllers have their own power except the flx4 that is powered off the hub.

  5. I am using built in mappings.

I tried the shift+slip and it made no difference. I tried to hook up my iPhone and the controller behaved normally so it must be something with the software configuration or a bug on the iPad. I was able to temporarily fix my issue by making a custom mapping that replaces scratch with pitch bend on the left jogwheel but this isn’t ideal.

Thanks for the additional info. I suggest that you backup your djay Media Library database and any custom MIDI mappings, then uninstall djay, reboot your device, and reinstall the latest version of djay. You can find the files above in the following locations Using the Files App, navigate to

  • Locations->On My iPhone/iPad->djay->User Data, you’ll find the djayMediaLibrary database here.
  • Locations->On My iPhone/iPad->djay, you’ll find your custom MIDI mapping here.
  • Copy the files to a new location or external drive before uninstalling djay. After reinstallation, you can simply copy these files back to their original locations to maintain your Hot Cues, Saved Loops, My Collection Playlists, History and Queue.

Alright, that did fix my initial issue but now I have a separate issue where all of my files are unlinked after putting the media library database back in the folder. Is there an easy solution to relink these?

Are you talking about Local Music? How did you originally copy this music onto your iPad? Did you use iTunes/Music on a computer and perform a Library Sync or did you use the Files Source?

I use the files source exclusively, I have around 2000 tracks that were sorted into playlists in My Collection and they’re all greyed out now.

Please close djay and follow the procedure linked below to perform a Forced Restart of your iPad: Force restart iPad - Apple Support

After rebooting, please navigate to the Files Source in djay and share a screenshot of this screen.

EDIT:
If your original folders here are not grayed out, then you should be able to Analyze Songs to relink them in My Collection.

If your original folders are grayed out, then you will need to re-add them using the + icon first, then perform the Analyze Songs step above.

Yeah I had to re-add my linked folders. Luckily I don’t have a million sub folders or this would have been a very extensive process! Thank you though

You’re welcome. Happy to help!
