Linked Folders and Removal Behaviour

Device model : iPad Air M2 2024
Version of operating system : iOS 17.7
Version of djay : 5.2.4
Hardware/controllers used : Reloop Mixtour Pro

Hi there,

Can I please ask what is the behaviour of Djay Pro on iOS based on the following scenario?

1.) I add a Linked Folder from a USB stick.
2.) Then I add tracks from the Linked Folder to a playlist.

If I then delete the playlists and then remove the Linked Folder in question, will the tracks be fully and automatically removed from My Collection? As if they had never been added in the first place?

I’m wanting to experiment with allowing my DJ friend to temporarily add some of his tracks from USB stick to my Djay Pro collection so that he can play on my setup, but once he’s done I need to revert back to my normal setup without:

1.) Doing anything untoward with his files on his USB stick (like messing with any file-based metadata.
2.) Leaving My Collection with “ghost” tracks or similar I can’t easily remove, if at all.

If anyone can shed some light on the subject I’d be very grateful, thank you.

PS: Final question, from a performance perspective, I presume loading and analysing a track from the USB will take longer than from the iPad native storage, but once the analysis is done, and the track is loaded to a deck, is this held in the iPad’s memory for faster performance, or are there continuous reads from the file on the USB stick/file needed? I’d like to understand if there would be any real difference in experience using those files on the USB stick that might be noticeably worse? (Obviously I want to impress my friend, but thought I’d check for gotchas!)

Kind regards,

James

  1. Deleting a playlist does not delete tracks.
  2. And if the audio files are not accessible, those tracks will show up as a ghost tracks.

To avoid ghost tracks:
a. delete the tracks first (in My Collection)
b. then delete the playlist

Thanks Michael, so removing the linked folder(s) will remove the tracks?

After which, I can then just delete the playlists?

To delete tracks, delete them directly in My Collection.

  • Deleting a linked folder does not delete tracks from My Collection.

  • Deleting a playlist does not delete tracks from My Collection.
