I’ve noticed lately that Looper on iOS always plays and pauses on the three (third beat or middle of measure). This is highly disruptive to when I (or anyone I assume) would want to have loops starting and stopping since the one is often where changes start and stop in dance music.
If I had to choose, definitely loops playing/pausing on the first beat of measures is preferred.
Ideally, playing/pausing can work on both the one and the three. Or, better still, allow a settings radio button selection that says:
Play/Pause Looper samples on:
• Only first beat of measures
• First and third beats of measures
This way people who want less control but a more surefire experience can choose just the one and those who wanna live on the edge can go for more control while risking a miss on a song break or other transition.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I’ve just tried to reproduce the issue you’ve described on our devices here, but the Looper plays/pauses on the first beat of the measure.
So we can take a closer look into this, could you please tell me the following:
What device are you currently using?
Which OS version is running on your device?
Which djay version are you using? (please open the djay settings and scroll down to determine the version number.)
Does this only happen with certain songs, or all songs?
Could you please record a video of the issue occurring and drop it here? Just let me know when you’ve done so, and then I can further troubleshoot this with you.
Thanks again for your patience. I look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks for the speedy reply, Emily, and sorry I was impatient and neglected to include basic information about device and software versions.
I’m having the problem on iPad (6th Gen) on iOS 15.3 running djay v3.8.6. It happens on any song and looper sync seems to be all over the place depending on starting and stopping the track.
Here’s a link to a video of my iPad screen capture that shows loops starting on the 3rd, 4th, and 1st beats all within the same song:
In this video, I’ve restarted the iPad before recording and it’s attached to nothing: no power or controller.
For first 30 seconds, you can see the loops starting on 3rd beat.
At 28 secs I stop the track and start again and you can see the loops starting and stopping on the 4th beat.
Next, at 1:05, the track ends and auto returns to the beginning where the loops again start/stop at the 3rd beat.
Finally, at about 1:20 I stop the track again with the loops running then resume the track and loops finally sync to the first beat for a measure before I gave up.
If I load another track, it’s the same. Mostly, it either syncs to the 1 or 3, but can sync to 2 or 4 and changes seemingly at random when stop/starting the track.
Thanks for sharing all of the additional detailed information. It’s definitely apparent on your video that this is happening. I still can’t reproduce it on our side, but I just wanted you to know that I’ve sent all of this information to our Development Team for further investigation. I’ll keep you posted as soon as I have any updates.
