Low Volume and Trouble connecting to Pioneer DJM A9

Hi Everyone

first of all, i Run Djay Pro 5.4 (latest one)
Macbook Air M3 2024 16gb of ram

Pioneer DJM A9 Mixer
CDJ 3000 using serato V1 Timecode wav

i have 2 issues

  1. Low Volume when auto gain is ON, Limiter OFF, Headroom is at 0db

the issue is the autogain, it does level up the volume, but it turns it low, Rekordbox has a work around, they can set the headroom UP to +3, +6, +9 db, would be good to have this in Djay too for us that needs it

  1. i have problem connecting to DJM A9, the timecode works, but right deck always no sound out, i try everything, isnt A9 is supported and supposed to be plug and play? any work around

thanks in advance for the help

Hi @echa0361, thanks for the details about your setup and the issue.

  1. Can you please confirm that the Main Volume slider in djay is also set to maximum when your hardware is connected?
  2. Please provide full details on how exactly you are connecting your CDJs and mixer to your Mac? For example, are you using a powered USB hub, direct USB cable connection, RCAs from CDJs to mixer, etc.?
    A. Can you confirm that you are using the latest A9 firmware from Pioneer DJ and have installed the latest macOS drivers?
    B. Please also share screenshots of your djay Settings>Devices and djay Settings>DVS windows.
    C. Please confirm that your Mixer Input selection for Channel 2 is set correctly (USB or Line depending on how you’re connected).
  1. The volume slider disappear when connecting to djm a9 on external mode

I tried playing without autogain and limiter this weekend, and its loud!

Enough to match the previous dj thats on usb on cdjs, so i still think we need a plus headroom, some clubs are used too djs cranking it hard, they based their whole setup on it, and makes us have to crank it up

2.the djm a9 issue solve it self, im on cdj to mixer with rca, all i did is delete the midi settings file cdj 3000-edit (from trying out hid) and it works like charm, maybe thats a bug?

Hi @echa0361, I spoke with our engineering team.

  1. djays gain is very reasonably balanced to land at a healthy level on the mixer and avoid clipping. Turning up the trim and main volume on the mixer should be enough to get as loud as needed while maintaining a healthy signal free of distortion.
  2. Glad to hear your connection issue resolved itself. If the issue returns, please share a short video of the problem.

hi slak jaw

i totally understood your point, and i agree, but i shared you real life issue in the clubs, some places compensate for djs that plays cranked up to the reds by setting their whole sound system to handle very loud inputs from their dj mixers

now if im playing at that kinda venue and before me is a DJ with usb (which happens a lot) even if i crank the gain up until reds on the djm from my djay, its still not loud enough to match the usb djs

for example one of the venue i play has the MASTER GAIN cranked up till 3 o clock, thats crazy i know, and i cant crank that up again

now when autogain is off, i can achieve that with no issue, which i dont mind to sacrifice trimming gains for the stems quality compare with other software

it would be nice if you can give us that option tho, its not ideal, but its needed , rekordbox has it, they can set headroom until +9db

thank you for the response

You’re welcome @echa0361. Thanks for the additional feedback. I will pass your suggestion onto our dev team for consideration.
