YOUR QUESTION:
Hi, fairly new to DJP, running on the above Mac (bought older version as it has USB ports). Running on Mac because I use music videos a lot. Working pretty well but have noticed the odd stutter/gap when using Automix. Have noticed that (in automix) the slider looks a bit jerky and the waveforms can take a little time to fully appear. Not using stems but I guess a/m adjusts stems automatically… Realistically do I need a more powerful mac or could it be that one has to expect the odd inconsistency? Never gone live with DJP before so feeling a bit nervous about using at my upcoming gig.
Its definitely an older machine and by today’s standards not very powerful for DJ software. I replaced my 2015 model in 2021 with an M1 Macbook Pro to give you an idea of the kind of upgrade you might need.
Unfortunately with more and more featues being demanded on DJ software, more and more processing power is needed. Id say you need at least an M chip machine and aim for at least 16gb of RAM. The newest Macbook Air is an absolute monster of a computer and can be had for less than £1200 with the 10 core option on the M4 chip, 16gb of RAM and a 512gb internal hard drive, im not sure there is a better computer on the planet for price and performance.
Hi @Michael_Sumner, try avoiding Neural Mix transition types when using Automix (choose Fade, Filter, EQ, Echo, Dissolve, Tremolo, Lunar Exho, Riser, Sweep or Hydrant). I recommend the same if using Crossfader FX. You could also consider turning Keylock Off.

I also upgraded to an M4 MacBook Air last year - the performance per dollar is incredible IMO.
