Manual loop out snaps to grid several beats off

  • Device model: Macbook Pro 2021 M1 Silicon Pro
  • Version of operating system: MacOS Sequoia 15.5
  • Version of djay: 5.3.2
  • Hardware/controllers used: Hercules Inpulse 500

Summary of the issue:

When setting a manual loop out, the end of the loop sometimes snaps several beats off from the playhead. This happens both when setting a loop during playback, and when carefully positioning the jogwheel while paused. Sometimes it is as much as 5 beats off. I don’t seem to have any issues setting the loop in.

The correct behaviour is for the loop out to snap to the closest beat.

How to reproduce the issue:

Keep setting manual loops until eventually the loop out snaps to more than a beat off.

I think this old unresolved post from over 10 years ago is related:

Hi @zalzebub, thanks for the details about your setup and the issue. I was unable to replicate this on my end.

  1. Do you have Quantize enabled? If so, what value are you using?
  2. Do you only experience this issue when setting loops via the Hercules controller? Can you reproduce the issue with the controller disconnected and using the onscreen loop in/out controls?
  3. Can you please share a screenshot of your djay Settings>Advanced window?
  4. Since this sounds reproducible, can you please capture and share a short screen recording?

Thanks!

Hi @Slak_Jaw , thanks for the response.

  1. I do have Quantize enabled, and it’s set to 1
  2. I experience the issue both when using the controller, and when using only the application controls with the controller unplugged

As you can see in this screencap, I tried to manually capture a 16 bar long loop. I loop in on bar 98 and loop out on bar 114. But then when I loop out directly over 114, the loop is set 2 additional beats past where I looped out.

Please let me know if there’s any other information I can provide.

Thanks for the additional info, screenshot and video @zalzebub. Very strange. You could try a fresh djay installation to see if that clears up the issue. I suggest that you backup your djay Media Library database and any custom MIDI mappings, then uninstall djay, reboot your device, and reinstall the latest version of djay. You can find the files above in the following locations:

  1. iOS: using the Files App, navigate to Locations->On My iPhone/iPad->djay->User Data
  2. macOS: https://help.algoriddim.com/hc/en-us/articles/360014912211-Where-does-djay-Pro-store-playlists-cue-points-and-other-data-on-my-Mac
  3. Windows: https://help.algoriddim.com/hc/en-us/articles/360014912131-Where-does-djay-Pro-store-cue-points-and-other-metadata

Copy the files to a new location or external drive before uninstalling djay. After reinstallation, you can simply copy these files back to their original locations to maintain your Hot Cues, Saved Loops, My Collection Playlists, History and Queue.

Hello! It’s been more than a week since my last reply. I’m going to consider this topic completed for now so I can focus on others. However, please feel free to respond and we can definitely revisit this. Thanks!

Hi @Slak_Jaw, I appreciate the response. I definitely mean to try your workaround, I just haven’t had time over the past week, since it seems a little bit more involved. Once I’m able to try it I will report back.
