MIDI Commands to Change Screen Display Modes

I’d like to submit an enhancement request regarding controller integration and the on-screen interface. Specifically, it would be extremely helpful if the djay software interface would just automatically follow what is being selected or activated on the hardware controller.

For example:

  • When switching between Cue Points and Loops using the controller, the on-screen display should follow this selection automatically.
  • Similarly, when switching between Instant FX and Manual FX modes on the controller, the corresponding FX section in the software should update visually as well.

As you know: currently, you have to manually switch on both the hardware and the software side to actually see on screen what is selected on the controller. This adds unnecessary complexity during a set.

This feature would greatly improve the user experience during live performances, especially when working primarily from a controller, by keeping the screen display synchronized with the hardware actions.

In this video, I show exactly what I mean.

Thanks for considering this feature request, and keep up the great work!

Thanks for the suggestion @DJ_Big_Blender. This is closely related to this existing suggestion so I’ve merged them together.

Thanks! This is great — you must be quite the forward-thinking person :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
I see you’ve already been advocating for this feature for almost two years (even before you started working for them)… How on earth did I miss that? You definitely have my vote now.

Also, I’m really curious to see what other helpful custom MIDI mappings you’ve come up with. Would love to see it in a video or something!

Thanks @DJ_Big_Blender, if you search around this Community, you will find several of my custom MIDI mappings and the iPhone and iPad remotes I made using TouchOSC.

If you click on any user’s profile picture or name once, then click again in the pop-up menu, you will navigate to their stats page where you can easily find all topics they’ve created.

Your question/suggestion/feedback:

I don’t know if someone already posted this. I’ve been looking and I can’t find anything. So I midi mapped my Pioneer DDJ- XP1 so I can have other things handy. However I’m trying to midi map the buttons to toggle through the cue points or FX so when I hit the cue button it opens the cue pads. If I hit Fx on my XP1 the FX page opens in DJay pro. I searched

everywhere and I can’t find the transport button. The only way I can open it is if I manually toggle it on the screen on my iPad. Does anyone know where I can find this action in the midi map controls?

Hi @FLORIDA_BEAT_MAKERS, this is not currently possible. However, I have merged your new topic with this existing suggestion and you can use the blue Vote button at the top left of this page to show your support for adding this feature. Thanks!

No problem. You’re welcome!

I’m new to these forums, does anyone know how the vote system works?

The first post in this topic has 70+ votes, is there a magic number whereby algoriddim will then build or integrate a new feature suggestion?

Or is the voting simply to gauge the level of interest / scale for a particular suggestion?

Thanks in advance for any insight

You’re welcome @TheSouthernDJ

I‘d like to make a suggestion for the suggestion. Or rather two:

  1. Just give us a target in the app for the screens (e.g. view: cue points / view sampler / view loops etc.) that we can map to. We don‘t have to map it it to the exact button we press to activate loops. But I would rather give away one of the 8 performance pads for this command then needing to change the view on the iPad.
  2. Even better would be to have a button to rotate through the views (ideally both directions). Then we could map this to any free button(s) on a controller and just cycle through the views. (E.g. 1/2 and 2x for the loop length is duplicated on my controller and I could reuse these buttons to cycle through the views easily).

You don‘t need to consider platform compatibility, you don‘t need to block any incoming MIDI commands and you already have the different views in the app.

There are so many users asking for a way to change the views in the app and this might be one of the easiest suggestions for you to build.

Thanks for the additional ideas @Derstu. I’ll pass this onto the devs…

Is there a chance that this will be available some time? It’s a real mystery for me why Algoriddim are not providing this basic feature given numerous users that want this and the long time this issue is flying around …

Hi @turbopussy, the team is still working on an ideal solution for this. As noted above, there are still some edge cases with certain hardware so this isn’t ready for public release yet.

In the meantime, perhaps this comment above will be helpful if you haven’t seen it yet:

I’m still new to the Algoriddim community, is there a beta version of the app available for iOS via Test Flight?

Is this being blocked by us only being able to map a MIDI command to one “thing”?

We’d need to be able to map a MIDI command to the actual function and then some sort of “and then” secondary function, that of changing the view in the app?

I have always been confused as to why Serato and Djay don’t use the same method as Rekordbox and VDJ of displaying on screen, the pad mode that has been selected on the controller. So if you press hotcues pad mode, the hotcues show on screen, stems mode selected on the controller means that the stems are shown on screen, etc, etc.

For me; with Algoriddim Djay’s updated flexible beatgrids, cross platform support, neural mix, the ease of setting hot cues on the beat grid. Having the pad mode automatically triggering the screen to reflect what was selected by the controller, is the final step for me to completely fully switch away from Serato/Virtual DJ to Djay Pro.
