After an unintended iOS update over 2 weeks ago, Djay Pro no longer recognizes my controller. I have reached out to Algoriddim support who has replied to my detailed explanation of the issue by asking me to basically repeat what I’ve already written out to them, which I have done and included a video with no response from Algoriddim. I am frustrated because I have already had to cancel one gig for this, and I am on track to have to cancel another scheduled for this Friday.
Here’s what’s happened:
My controller (Reloop Mixon 4) connected to my iPad Pro 12.9” (4th gen, iOS 18.3.1) no longer responds to the Djay Pro app (5.2.9)
An automatic update occurred o my iPad, updating to iOS 18.3.1 which seems to not be compatible with MIDI devices (my theory). The controller then stopped working within the DJ app.
Connected via USB-B to USB-C, the Reloop Mixon 4 does not register. I’ve tried another controller (Numark Mixtrack Pro FX) with the same problem. I’ve tried new USB cables which also did not resolve the problem. I’ve connected via USB hub with no resolution. I’ve rescanned for MIDI devices with no luck. I’ve re-installed DJ Pro, which has done nothing. I’ve force-restarted my iPad with no luck. I’ve ensured that the Mixon 4 firmware is up to date. No device is recognized in the Djay Pro app. I really can’t afford to cancel another gig, so if anyone has any advice, I’d greatly appreciate it.

Hi @PNas21, welcome to the Community! Sorry to hear you’re experiencing this issue. Based on your description, this sounds like an issue with your iPad USB port or with iOS. Have you reached out to Apple Support or tried taking your iPad to an Apple Store to have diagnostics performed on it? I’ve experienced issues similar to this in the past that could only be resolved at Apple.
Regarding the USB hub, are you using a powered USB hub and connecting it to power with your original iPad charger and cable? Please confirm that your iPad is charging when connected this way.
In the meantime, here are some other things we can check:
Check USB Access Permissions
• Go to Settings > Face ID & Passcode
• Scroll down to Allow Access When Locked
• Make sure Accessories is turned ON
• If it’s OFF, iOS may block USB MIDI devices after the iPad has been locked for a while.
Test in Another App
• Download MIDI Wrench or MIDI Scope (free in the App Store).
• Open MIDI Wrench, then connect your Mixon 4.
• If the controller doesn’t appear, iOS isn’t recognizing MIDI devices, confirming an iOS bug.
Try a Different Power Source
• Some users report that after iOS updates, devices need more power to function.
• If using a USB hub, make sure it’s powered (not just a data hub).
• Try using Apple’s USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter with power connected.
Reset iOS MIDI System
• Backup your iPad to your laptop or iCloud first.
• Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Reset > Reset Location & Privacy
• After resetting, reconnect the Mixon 4, then open djay Pro and rescan for MIDI devices.
Hello! It’s been a week since my last reply. I’m going to consider this topic completed for now so I can focus on others. However, please feel free to respond and we can definitely revisit this. Thanks!
I’m facing the same issue on my iPad Pro 12,9" (M1) running iOS 18.3.2. It seems to be an iOS issue, as MIDI Wrench is unable to find the device as well. I’m gonna try out the next iOS 18.4 RC. Posting this here for others running into the same issue.
Thank you to the Algoriddim staff that has consistently reached out to help with the issue.
My case turned out to be a combination of issues both with the iOS update and with the device itself.
the iOS update did not install correctly leaving out firmware mapping. Apple was able to help with this by doing a full re-install at the Genius Bar. Shortly after, a new issue came up.
after Apple updated the iPad correctly, after the restart it was realized that the iPad was no longer connecting to anything via USB and charging had slowed down significantly. The USB-C port showed some signs of damage.
I was able to borrow a MacBook Pro from a friend and everything now works fine. My Mixon 4 now connects perfectly fine to my iPhone, and is also operational through the MacBook.
Mixon 4:
Although the Mixon 4 now connects, another issue (I attract issues) had come up which seems to be common for the Mixon 4. The channel 2 fader does not work properly at all. Any vibration on the controller triggers the fader in the app to move on its own. According to forums, having the fader replaced solves this issue but if you don’t have soldering skills, good luck with that. I’ve chosen instead to re-map all of the channel 2 functions to channel 4, effectively swapped 2 and 4. Although not ideal, it makes the controller functional enough.
You’re welcome @PNas21. Glad to hear you were able to resolve the original issue. Sorry to hear about your Mixon 4 fader issues - if this is a used controller, you might also want to try cleaning the fader. Thank you very much for sharing the details resolution - this is very helpful!
Quick recap: After an iOS update, my iPad suddenly stopped reading USB devices. It no longer registered my Mixon4, Numark Mixtrack Platinum FX, or any other controller. Not even MacBooks were registering the iPad. No data transfer via USB has worked at all since that initial update to iOS 18.3.1
Had some great troubleshooting attempts by Algoriddem staff, but to no avail.
Apple stated the problem was likely the USB port itself.
My iPhone 15 Pro Max is updated with the latest iOS. Everything works perfectly fine.
I’ve since had the USB-C port replaced on my iPad. Updated to the latest iOS (to see if there was an iOS update that would fix the issue). Still… no MIDI connectivity whatsoever. It’s not recognized in MIDI Wrench, I’ve force-restarted. I’ve uninstalled/reinstalled Djay Pro. I’ve tried other controllers. Tried new cables. Used a powered USB hub, tried the Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter, tried without a hub, restored privacy / location settings, made sure accessories are turned on in iPad settings, nothing has worked.
I’ve found HUNDREDS of threads online (not only here, also on Reddit and Apple forums) stating the same issue with their MIDI devices following an iOS update. Apple has been pretty much useless with helping figure this out. I’m pretty sure it’s because they want me to buy a new iPad.
I am writing again to see if anyone has found an update on this or any kid of solution. It’s frustrating, especially since my bookings are picking up. My controller has pretty much become a prop at my events, as I’m only able to DJ directly through the app. The one good thing that has come from this is that I’ve learned my way around Djay Pro extremely well. I’ve adapted to mixing without headphones for a cue mix (since I can’t use them without my controller) and simply using the visual stem waves and song knowledge to mix on the fly. I would just really like to have full functionality back. I appreciate any feedback anyone could provide on this.

Hi @PNas21, sorry to hear that the new USB-C socket didn’t solve your issue. Thanks for sharing the additional details. I had a similar problem several years ago and the new USB-C socket didn’t fix it for me either. I ended up having to replace my iPad. I realize that’s probably not the news you were hoping for, but given your description of the issue and the troubleshooting you’ve tried, it seems unlikely this will be solved via software.
