Hi all,.
Advice requested…

We are with a group we have been skiing and sailing with for almost 20 years.
I want to make a mix incorporating all music that is recognizable to everyone… Let’s say 40 songs.
All these 40 songs I want about 10 seconds and accapella.
Below is a random Beat (Housetrack).

Now I am using DjayPro, but is this the right tool ?
If yes, what would be the right approach . (All tracks are already local, for Neural) Have an Alpha Theta DDJ-GRV6 and am especially not experienced

Thanks for all the help in advance !

Hi @boing, I think you could definitely do this with djay. Personally,

  1. I’d load your house track on Deck 1 and the first of your 40 songs on Deck 2. Manually beat match or sync your Deck 2 song with Deck 1.
  2. Turn your Deck 2 song into an acapella using Neural Mix EQs or the Vocal Solo button
  3. Create a Saved Loop for the 10 seconds (I recommend 32-64 beats to maintain phrasing) of the track you want to use in your mix.
  4. Create Saved Loops for the rest of the 40 songs.
  5. Then with your house track playing, start experimenting with different orders for the songs to figure out what works and sounds best.
  6. For best results, try to keep in mind the underlying structure of your house track and mix your acapellas in at appropriate points. If you’re not familiar with musical phrasing, do a bit of research on this. At a bare minimum, align your 32-64 beat acapella loops up with the start of the 32 beat sections in your house track.
  7. Also experiment with different FX like Echo, Reverb and Filters to smooth out the incoming and outgoing transitions for each acapella. I hope that helps!

Hi Slak_Jaw,..

Thank you so much for your quick response and detailed explanation.

What I run into and now again now that I read your explanation, is that I make a saved loop of 10 sec (as an example)…
This loop is vocal only, and I save that loop in the Saved loops.

As I understand your description correctly I have to do this for all 40 songs obviously… But then ?
Do I have to reopen all those songs piece by piece, while playing Deck 1 for the beat,.. to then turn on that particular loop?

What I also notice then is that the loop does play, but then shows all the instruments and not just the vocal.
(Sorry, not an expert on this and couldn’t find it online very quickly)

Thanks again!

You’re welcome @boing,

  1. Yes, you will need to load and play each song / saved loop one at a time and essentially back to back while the House track is playing on the left deck. This will likely take a fair bit of planning and practice to get everything to flow together properly, especially with 40 different songs. Challenging, but not impossible.
  2. You will need to engage the Vocal Solo each time you load the next song on Deck 2 to put it into an acapella. Or use the Neural Mix EQs to remove the Harmony and Drums.

Hm, that’s quite a task then.

Then wouldn’t it perhaps be better or possible for me to make a recording of each loop and then process it in a tool like Logic X?
Because any mistake you make while recording, you can start over.

That’s probably a better choice for this specific task yes.
