That is so true about the Mixon 8 having problems but since the update my controller has been on piont, no more freezing, no delay with the FX, was about to kick the Mixon 8 to curb until the update…now we on good terms and rocking!!
Hi @Slak_Jaw I went for the Mixon 8, partly on your recommendation! So just unboxed, I updated the Reloop firmware as instructed to the latest version (V53.39). Turned deck on and it cycles through all the buttons but then just shows three dashes in the jog displays. Plugged in my iPad and it recognises it in Djay in the settings but that is it. Djay isn’t controlled by the Mixon 8. I have tried different cables and plugging into USB A and B. I also tried Djay on my Mac. Same result. I am presuming user error. But cannot work out what am I doing wrong. Any suggestions?
Hi @HenleyBranch, sounds like you need to install the firmware a second time. I had a similar issue the first time. Also, make sure you select the correct source to match which USB socket you plugged in. There are some small switches above the Gain Knobs for each channel.
EDIT: Make sure you are connected via USB cable directly to your computer, not through a USB hub, when installing the firmware.
@HenleyBranch, also make note of the small switch on the back of the unit and ensure it’s in the correct position based on which socket you plugged into.
Yes I have! It’s set to iOS with an IPad Pro M1 plugged into the USB-C. I should add that the controller is controlling the crossfader but seemingly nothing more.
@HenleyBranch and you installed the firmware a second time with a direct connection (no USB hub)?
I did install twice. But it was your tip on the input setting switches. I just discovered they were set to phono rather than USB-A. All solved. Thank you so much @Slak_Jaw. We’re spinning!
That’s so disappointing. Did they allow screen unlock for VDJ?
Usually when Atomix add support for a controller, it’s full support (everything works). There are very few exceptions.
Why is it so easy for VDJ to get all these controller screens manufacturer unlocked so fast but not algoriddim?
Yes. Not sure how Atomix does it but it allows screen access for most controllers. Even on my XDJ-XZ it magically showed the stacked waveforms not only in the jogwheels but also on the large center display!
TLDR: considering switch from Reloop Mixon 8 to Pioneer FLX-10.
Firstly thank you to this community for all the information on it and the supportive vibe. I have loved getting back into DJ’ing with the DjayPro and Reloop Mixon 8 but I’ve had some problems with the controller, a hardware issue on the performance pads. My supplier / Reloop have been agreed to replace the unit but I am wondering if I should switch controller altogether. (I realise this was my original question). I have been a bit frustrated with the dodgy pads, and Reloop’s support sending holding responses not actually addressing the issue. It’s made me think do I stick or twist.
My current set up is Mixon 8 and iPadPro M1 (with M3 MacBook available). I am considering trading the controller in, once replaced, for a Pioneer FLX10 to give me more options longer term (closer to club set up). Truth is I am unlikely to be regularly DJ’ing in clubs (I have another career) so for me this is a relaxing fun thing and allows me to explore a lifelong love of house music. I have shared mixes online with friends and have been approached for some low key gigs and also to “bring my USB to go back-to-back”. How do you do that from DjayPro? I know I can convert my crates and cues, but I presume I need to be more familiar with industry-standard Pioneer gear? Overall would like to stick with Djay Pro platform as I love it and am familiar with it. Also we’re a full Apple ecosystem household, so I appreciate the Apple Music integration. My preference would also be to stick with the iPad version as the touchscreen interface with a controller works well for me in a kinda XDJ-AZ kind of way, I have some questions :
-
Jog wheel displays on FLX-10 are Mac only and compared to RB / Serato are restricted data (no waveforms etc). They don’t currently work at all with iOS (HID not compatible with iOS DjayPro). I use the jog displays on the Mixon 8 so would miss them, but definitely don’t fancy the “No Driver” displayed on them. Is this likely to remain the case? i.e. is it an insurmountable issue with iOS not supporting HID, or might a future update from Algoriddim fix this (Algoriddim claim it is AT issue and AT claim it is Algoriddim?! Virtual DJ manages it, so?!!)
-
Other than jog wheel displays, Algoriddim state the FLX-10 is fully supported. Is that everyone’s experience on iPad DjayPro?
-
Does anyone use DjayPro generally then transfer to Rekordbox when using other systems / performing (using DJCU to transfer) via USB? Is it quite challenging to use Rekordbox interface / waveforms etc if not regularly using in practice?
-
In my use case - hobbyist with occasional need to take my USB and perform on club gear - would I be better jumping ship to the Pioneer ecosystem (so my limited practice time is on one system)?
-
Probably niche, but has anyone else done this specific switch - Mixon 8 to FLX-10 or other Pioneer deck and what was your reasoning / experience?
These are questions I ask myself. Any advice on any or all of the above would be much appreciated. Thanks once again for the support on this forum. Invaluable to the newbie.
Just a fun fact, maybe you’ll find that interesting. When i started to learn to DJ in a dj school, I initially was using a club setup and played from a USB, but later on, when I started using DJaypro, i started coming in with my laptop and USB cables to that setup, just connecting CDJ’s to my laptop and using that setup as an external mixer. Once i started doing that I couldn’t go back, how easy and convenient that was. I like to play with a laptop. Don’t worry for unfamiliar setup. Djaypro does a great job in it’s own.
Reassuring response. Thank you!
Yes, connecting a laptop running DJayPro to recent Pioneer “club-standard” gear via 2xUSBs (one for each CDJ) just works so well. You get the best of both worlds with the vastly superior DJayPro software and the familiar CDJ hardware.
In the image on this page it suggests you also need an audio interface, but when I used this setup recently with some 2000Nexus2s, the CDJs worked as two interfaces so the audio came out of them into the mixer.
I don’t know if it also works from an iPad though?
Actually if you read the text on that page it says:
You can use each CDJ/XDJ as a standalone controller including audio interface
So the separate audio interface is definitely optional.
