Mixtour PRO - tempo on browse encoder

@Nubium
Check you have mapped (SHIFT + Encoder) to Tempo for the Selected Deck not Deck A.
NOTE: Selected Deck mappings are in a separate menu for memory.

Also, you could create a fresh blank mapping just to test this and make sure you have it right. This could be useful if you have made other custom additions / changes to the mapping.

I tested this on my iPhone and did what you said. I definitely selected selected Deck and not Deck one, but it only changes the tempo on deck one even though nothing is playing and nothing’s even loaded on that deck.

Thank you for the information. I am testing it again now Deck one doesn’t even have a track loaded. The volume is down and still the app considered Deck one to be the selected deck even though I’m playing music through deck two. I tested this on my iPhone just to check with a different device

Please try retesting with the (built-in) MIDI mapping to see if you get the same results.

I performed the reset, and I went into the original midi mapping and remapped the shift and browsing encoder to tempo And I even pressed Sink on the left deck so that the right deck was the master sink and still when I use the shift and encoder To change the tempo only the left deck changes, tempo and sink is turned off.

Update

I have just discovered that the left track needs to be playing and the volume up slightly in order for sync to stay on So that both decks have the tempo change. Does that make sense?

@Nubium I’m back home and have been able to test now.

I can tempo on sync’d or unsync’d decks both playing or both stopped or one playing and one stopped.

However, I can also replicate what you describe…

If the fader is down on the selected deck it does not update the tempo of the SYNC’d deck and therefore loses SYNC and the SYNC lights go off.

Raising the fader, pressing SYNC and returns the tempo control to both decks.

@Slak_Jaw ^^ fyi … Is that behaviour intentional ? Seems odd to me.

Hi @Nubium and @rishi, I think the issue is with using a single control to operate both the Left and Right Deck Tempo Faders. Please try retesting this using the onscreen Tempo Faders with djay in Pro or Classic Mode.

  1. With the Right Deck Channel Fader Up, the Left Deck Channel Fader all the way Down and the Crossfader in the Middle,
  2. Press Play on the Right Deck and Sync on the Left Deck. Now the Right Deck should be the Tempo Master.
  3. Try adjusting the onscreen Right Deck Tempo Fader and the Left Deck should move accordingly.
  4. Since the Right Deck is the Master, if you adjust the Left Deck Tempo Fader, with the Channel Fader at 0, it will not change the Tempo of the Right Deck. This is expected behavior since the Left Deck is the Tempo Slave because the Channel Fader is at 0 (ie not playing through the Master Audio Output).
  5. However, once you press Play on the Left Deck and open the channel Fader slightly, this now has the option to become a Master Tempo Deck. So, yes, what you are both describing sounds like expected behavior when using a single control to operate the Tempo for both Decks.
  6. I recommend that you MIDI map individual controls for the Left Deck and Right Deck Tempo. However, the (built-in) MIDI Mapping already has this feature (although slightly hidden).
    a. Hold SHIFT+MODE+CUE to reduce the Tempo and
    b. Hold SHIFT+MODE+PLAY/PAUSE to increase the Tempo.

I hope that helps!

@Slak_Jaw Thanks for the detailed explanation. Much appreciated.

The tempo mapping works only on the selected deck.

Based on your explanation, I think the mapping is working as expected. It’s the expected behaviour that is confusing.

My question is … Why make is so complicated ?

Why not just have …

SYNC tempo changes on all decks with SYNC ON

Why does it matter whether a deck is playing or the fader is up?

If I want individual tempo change then I just turn SYNC button off.

Pitch Bend is a separate issue, where you need to be able to temporarily change a sync’d tracks tempo when the grid is slightly out.

You’re welcome @rishi. This is how the Master Deck logic currently works. I’m sure the engineering team has good reasons for this as there are a lot of things going on under the hood. For more info please refer to this FAQ. https://help.algoriddim.com/hc/en-us/articles/360011647580-How-does-the-Sync-function-work

If you’d like to open a new Suggestion Topic for how you’d like Sync behavior to be adjusted, I can pass that onto the dev team for consideration. I hope that helps!

FWIW… Its the same behaviour with the built in method using SHIFT+CUE etc

I have to make sure that

  1. SYNC is on
  2. The track is playing
  3. The fader is up
  4. The cross fader is not to the opposite side.

Sometimes engineering tries to be too smart and confuses users. I work in software development and we often unwind hidden logic so it’s easier for people to understand how things work even if it means having to press a button.

Happy to open a Suggestion Topic… I’d be grateful if you could do that.

I’m clear on how it works for now… until I have to re-visit the topic for refresher !!

Thanks for your considered responses.

Thanks for the additional observations and input @rishi. Yes, as I explained, this is currently expected Master Deck / Sync behavior regardless of the controls you are using. I wrongly assumed earlier that your MIDI mapping was controlling both Deck 1 and 2 Tempo as the same time. My point was more that it is clearer which deck tempo you are controlling when you have separate controls so it’s easier to tell if you are controlling the Master or Slave deck. Either way, I see your point and think it’s worth creating a suggestion topic for…

You need to open the Suggestion topic yourself so it is connected to your Community account. I cannot do it for you. Thanks!

Agree with your point. Will create a Suggestion topic

Thanks
