Your question:
Are you able to change whether output is mono or stereo? Coming over from serato and didn’t see this in settings. I’m really pleased with the overall sound of your product!

Hi @jmoak311, currently there is no software setting to switch from stereo to mono output. This would need to be done via your connected hardware. Thanks.
You can select mono output as a system setting in macOS.
But there are no hardware stereo/mono settings on dj controllers or my dj mixer. Maybe I’m confused, I dj really late last night lol. I also noticed the sound in my headphones appeared to be in stereo. Someone in a previous post told me to route the sound in mono on MacBook Pro which I did.
Another question having the do with mono/stereo. I perform weddings oftentimes in smaller rooms. 50-80 people approximately. In those instances one sub and one top is perfect. Will the fact that I can’t run djay pro in mono force me to use two tops always? Are there workarounds? Thank you so much in advance!
I’ve done this. I still get stereo in the headphones on older tracks. Will this allow me to run a single top and sub combo for smaller rooms? I only do this a few gigs a year but I don’t want to be caught with my pants down.
Single sub & top works for me but I get a definate mono signal in my headphones when I switch the MacOS setting so something doesn’t seem to be working the same for you.
You could test using the sound files available from Left / Right Stereo Sound Test (Online)
Alternatively pick up a basic merge box like Millenium SML 21 – Thomann Ireland
I get mono audio from the MacBook Pro but with my headphones plugged into my ddj1000srt it still comes out stereo. I’m going to look and see if there’s a setting on the board itself or my Mackie external mixer.
If you have an external mixer I wouldn’t worry about software settings. I like to hear stereo in my headphones even if its a mono PA; so I just pan L & R channels to center on the mixer.
I’ll play around with it for sure. For me, I almost never take my right headphone off the entire night. I’ve been djing like that for over 10 years. Just really weird not to have sound coming out of one ear cup. I’ll play around wearing both ears, I just don’t see why they can’t make a mono output.
I’m not sure I follow - how are you not getting sound out of one ear cup? Have you turned on split cue unintentionally?
No I had split cue off. I noticed it when playing Mr. Bright side and last dance with Mary Jane (a few other tracks too). Neither of the intro riffs/synths came out of the right ear cup. I’m attributing it to the fact that you cannot switch djay pro to mono. Reason being is that the same thing happens to these tracks specifically when using serato dj pro if you don’t switch the output to mono. I’m hoping I’m missing something else but I feel that’s too much of a coincidence.
Oh ok I though you were saying you had no sound at all!
Seems to be a limitation in MacOS that the ‘play stereo audio as mono’ only applies to channels 1 and 2, which would typically be ‘Main Output’. Pre-Cueing would be going to some other pair like 3 & 4 on your controller for headphones so aren’t affected. So to get headphones working as you require it probably means Apple need to fix the OS, we need a new ‘mono’ feature in DJPro, or you need to get a hardware box that can merge stereo headphone output to mono.
For your PA scenario, I still believe the Play As Mono audio in the OS works here. Alternatively since you have a mixer do it manually there with channel panning, or pick up the XLR merge box above.
I’m hoping maybe @Slak_Jaw can lmk if I’m doing something wrong also. I guess atm I can try and get used to wearing both ear cups on those tracks recorded in stereo, just hard to break 10 years of a habit lol.
@Slak_Jaw are you saying there may be a setting on the board itself? e.g. I’m using a 1000srt and I don’t remember the option to physically switch. Or perhaps there’s another workaround I’m unfamiliar with.
Hi @jmoak311, yes, some DJ hardware (Reloop Mixtour Pro for example), has a physical switch on the device for Stereo and Mono output. Looking at the DDJ-1000SRT user manual, it appears this hardware does not have this option. However, it looks like you might be able to change this in the Controller Utility Settings. Please refer to page 94 of the DDJ-1000SRT for more details. Page 102 discusses how to change the Master output between Mono/Stereo. I hope that helps!
I see that you have also opened a suggestion topic to have a Mono/Stereo setting in the djay software and I have passed this request onto the dev team for further review and consideration. I’ll report back when I have more news on that.
Thank you so much just found a video on YouTube also!
