YOUR SUGGESTION:
I strongly dislike the way this EQ menu dropdown is located. That should imply the knob below is it EQ, not the 3 on the side. there’s no mention of the single knob actually being gain. Am I being picky? yes. Also - that should just make sense.

sure! I know that - but I guess in a bit of a panic, I kept trying to change the EQ by moving the gain knob - becuase that knob is directly under the drop down that says EQ. or NM. just seems like poor UX placement. 
in any of the three options, that knob below it doesn’t change function. therefor, I think that dropdown is misplaced. that should be under or above what it actually changes.
