MP3 Tagging, no re-analyze

Using Mac, iPad and iPhone:

If I use a 3rd party tagging software just to populate the genre in my music library, will DJay Pro re-analyze all the tracks? Trying to avoid tagging my entire library manually. Any recommendations on a tagging software? TIA

do you have the genres off-head, or you want the tagging software to auto-generate online?
if you have off-head, kid3, id3tag are both good options. On kid3, make sure to use “Tag2:ID3v2.4.0” tag option for compatibility.
On next relaunch of djay, it reflects automatically (unless you use conflicting libraries from iTunes or Music - those must first get updated from Music app

Onetagger is Ok, you can use the presets or create your own. The results just show up in Djay when you open the app. You can tag in the Rekordbox free version and write to comments but the results are a bit cumbersome.

Lexicon is the ultimate but you do have to pay. It’s amazing for tagging, organising and restructuring your library if it gets out of hand. I drop in and drop out of the subscription as needed. The standard subscription lets you tag and write tags to file, the ultimate lets you restructure and reorder your library. The free version of Mixo has some tagging options too but I haven’t tried it.

I use MP3Tag.

Easy to use and does the job. Changes are reflected in DJay Pro without triggering re-analysis.

Thank you all very much for the input. Duly noted!

You can also use something like Claude to write a python script which will go through your files and tag them according to whatever parameter you want. I recently did the inverse: I lost my library and used Claude to go through my individual files and extract the comments/tags to generate me a list of genres so I can rebuild my library. Came very close to also having Claude rebuild the library with a crate per genre but we couldn’t get there and I figured I’d just do it manually. Probably could’ve figured it out with a bit more effort though.

I love LexiconDJ, as it gives a lot of very useful “power-user” features for large library management, plus the developer is very active and approachable.

Alternatively, in the past I did a lot with MP3Tag, but this also seems to be “paid-for” now, although it’s a one-time fee, not a subscription model. I prefer one-time payments.
