Native instruments Z1 not detected as MIDI device

So Ive just bought a Native instruments Kontrol Z1 to use with DJAY Pro. When plugged in via USB Djay Pro detects its a mixer, and gives me the option to pre cue with it and use a main output, which is great. But it isn’t detecting it as a midi device so I can actually control the virtual mixer with it. How could I get it detected with Djay Pro? I am using a power cable to, to ensure it has plenty of power to make it detected.

Thanks in advance!

Please note that the NI Z1 is not natively supported by djay Pro, yet.

However, you can map any midi controller yourself, using our MIDI-Learn feature. How to do this? You can’t find a full description here (don’t worry, it’s a really straightforward process):

You can get a full overview of all natively supported hardware products here:

Hi christian randell,

thank you for your post.
Have you checked if your Z1 is set to midi mode? You can enable midi mode by  pressing MODE + both left and right cue buttons (A and B).

After that and in combination with the Native Instruments Controller Editor you should be able to midi map the Z1.

Cheers,

Lukas E.

Hi Algoriddim -

This topic was last addressed 8 months ago. Has there been any progress as far as making the Traktor Z1 compatible with Algoriddim DJay?

I have a Z1 and would like to make the switch (mainly due to native Denon DN-SC2000 support and vertical-scrolling waveform layout), but I don’t really want to change my controller.

I would consider moving over to an Akai AMX, but I don’t see native support for it either.

Any plans to support either one of them natively?

Thanks!
Avery

I had this working about a month ago and now it no longer works. I was running a Launchpad S and Kontrol Z1 and now it only recognizes the Launchpad.

DJay Pro recognizes the Z1 and allows me to play audio through it as a sound card but I can not use any of the MIDI mapping.

HELP!

Hi,

Z1 + DJ Pro (on OSX) work together flawlessly, you just need to download some software from the NI website to enable MIDI use with 3rd party software like Day Pro.

Only two things I find quite annoying and I would like to see fixed:

  1. There’s no way to get the VU meter on the Z1 to work (and the one that’s built in the app is unusable, come on guys sort it out! - there’s plenty of space along the top, next to your pretty logo if you really don’t want to natively support this controller)

  2. There is no way to configure the MODE button, which is a shame as that would come in pretty handy… Is that something that could be done in theory, or does it depend on NI limitations?

Thanks,

Luca

Hey Crhizz, seriously, thank you!

It works like a charm, you’ve made me very happy indeed!

Big up!

To get the VU meter to work on your Z1 you have to edit the *.djayMidiMapping file manually. Open it in a text editor and add right before editor the following lines.

Greets
Chrizz

keyPath
turntable1.monoMeter

My midimapping Z1 including Chrizz VU (thanks). I use the ON buttons for start (doubletap). Button B and MODE not working. Button A switches the handset:
