New to the software question about sub folder

Hello,
Using macOS and new to the software. I am trying to add all my music from an external hard drive. I notice it will show some of the files but it seems when I do a search for a certain group or song they don’t show. Am I missing something when adding? Also a lot of my files are in sub folders is this part of the problem?

They were coming up in search a few days ago and now nothing. I didn’t change any settings or anything like that.

Any news on displaying all contents of a folder and subfolders? This seems like a basic feature to include in the software for people who do not rely on streaming services but use their own library of music.
