So, love dance music and the art of dj’ing
Just bought myself Hercules ultra mix controller and want to use tidal with the dj extension to learn to DJ. Never gonna be professional, just want to mess about at home. I want to use an iPad along with djay pro, I eventually want to stop playing with neural mix. Can anyone suggest what iPad to go for? I understand I need something with an M1 chip or above?
Hi @neil_lovell, welcome to the Community! I agree with @Dysfunk_DJ, try to get the highest spec’d M-series iPad that fits within your budget to maximize the length of time between your next hardware upgrade. The linked FAQ below will give you an ideal of what devices support Neural Mix and a what quality level:
Don’t buy older than the M1 iPad Air.
It runs flawlessly on it. If you can afford more, go for it.
Make sure you have enough disk space to host your library. 256gb works well for me.
Hi thanks for your message. What a minefield eh. With the fact that I plan on just using tidal to mess about, I don’t need to worry too much about physical space as I wouldn’t be downloading anything?
If you go for 64 gig and have your iCloud account linked it will be full pretty fast. Your OS, your pictures, some other apps take up a lot of space. Sometimes you need 12BG+ just to download a new iPad os update.
You start recording some of your sets in wav format. Suddenly a 2 hour set takes up nearly 1,5GB, a few sets quickly take up a lot of storage. Yes, you can move them somewhere else but it‘s extra effort
You start digging for songs and find some nice remixes on SoundCloud or Bandcamp or you buy music that tidal doesn‘t have…
Yes, you can sell your iPad and buy a new one. If you go for used it‘s not expensive but it‘s a hustle that you want to avoid if you can afford it.
