No sound output to PC speakers - Hercules Inpulse 500

  • Device model Hercules Inpulse 500
  • Version of operating system Windowss 10
  • Version of djay 5.3.2752.0
  • Connection type: USB B to A using supplied cable.

Problem: Can’t output audio to laptop speaker when Inpulse 500 is connected.

In Windows control panel, output is selected to “Speakers(realtek)”

Works fine with this controller in Serato DJ Pro (trial version) and DJUCED.

Oddly, audio output works fine with my Hercules DJControl Mix using USB C to C cable.

So, it doesn’t seem to be a windows config problem as my Inpulse 500 controller outputs audio thru laptop speakers just fine in other DJ apps, just not DJay Pro.

It doesn’t seen to be an Inpulse 500 problem either because it outputs audio just fine in everyone else’s software.

Is there a config for audio output anywhere in the software (and I’m jsut using it wrong) or is this missing entirely?

Hi @SK_Pod, welcome to the Community! Thanks for the details about your setup and the issue - this is very helpful!

  1. In the djay Settings>Audio Devices, try changing the Audio Driver from ASIO to WASAPI.
  2. Then set the Main Output to **Speakers - Realtek.

Thank you.

As Djay is the only software that requires me to do this for one specific Hercules controller (Inpulse 500) but not my other Hercules controller (DJControl Mix), this sounds like a bug to me.

Serato, Virtual DJ, and DJUCED all played through the speakers without having to reconfigure drivers. With all the cutting edge features you’ve been working on like Neural Mix and support for virtual reality, I wish some attention could be paid to making it work consistently with hardware from the same manufacturer.

You’re welcome @SK_Pod. Thanks for the additional feedback. I will pass it onto the dev team.

Hi @SK_Pod, here is the response from our engineering team. I agree with this and it’s also my preference when using DJ hardware.

The current djay behaviour is intended and a feature - we default to use the controller instead the Windows system setting because we think it’s better to have it work out of the box when you’re at a gig and need to change the setting when practicing at home and not the other way round.
