OneLibrary + Virtual USBs (macOS only)

(macOS Only)

OneLibrary can be used to sync djay Pro on two Macs using virtual USBs (no need for a physical USB stick). A virtual USB can be copied over WIFI, email, iCloud, Airdrop etc.

Create a virtual USB:

  • In Disk Utility, create a new-blank disk image (.dmg file). This will contain the virtual USB,

    • Format as FAT Master Boot Record.
    • Name the disk image (.dmg file) and virtual USB (the names can be same or different).
    • Default size is 100MB (can be bigger or smaller).
  • Open the disk image (.dmg file). The virtual USB should appear on the Desktop.

  • In djay Pro, give access to the virtual USB. Update and sync. (data is saved to disk image .dmg file)

  • Eject or throw the virtual USB into the Trashcan.

  • Copy the disk image (.dmg file) to another Mac.

  • Open the disk image (.dmg file). The virtual USB should appear on the Desktop.

  • In djay Pro, give access to the virtual USB. Update and sync.

Notes: macOS Only. Does not work with iOS. Not sure about Windows.

Hi @Michael_Wisniewski, may I ask please for your steps where you said:

“In Djay pro, give access to the virtual USB, update and sync”

Can you please clarify what you mean by “update and sync” ?

Is to “sync” to read the virtual USB as a drive in Djay pro? Or is it something to do with iCloud syncing?

Where I’m going with this is, are the “two Macs” attached to the same iCloud user account, or is this process independent of iCloud syncing? Ie. Could the two Macs in a given scenario be completely unrelated?

Thanks very much

James

Hi @Michael_Wisniewski, I’ve re-read your post a few times now and I think I’ve got a better idea of what you mean now.

Very interesting idea, can’t wait to try it out when I’m next at home.

Cheers

James

I just mean add playlists to the → USB or copy playlists on the USB to the → djay Pro library.

Has nothing to do with iCloud syncing.

The two Macs can be completely un-related. The file containing the virtual USB is just a regular file, it can be transferred to any computer.
