I have read a few post requesting for default “Straight” gridding. which is the opposite of what I’m requesting.
I’ve noticed that “Dynamic” Beat Grid is a lot more accurate with Fluid Beatgrids, compared to “Straight” beatgrids, its easier to beatgrid difficult songs. This also seems to work better with DJays Fluid Beatgrids.
I am going through all my tracks and changing them one by one to “Dynamic” instead of “Straight”
Its working out perfectly for me.
Is it possible to give me the options in settings, to when you analyze a folder or playlist, to Make those tracks “Dynamic” or make any new tracks you analyze, Dynamic.
Hi @eecy_cee, this setting already exists. In the djay Settings>Library>BPM Analysis if you set the Tempo Change Detection to Automatic, djay will automatically use Dynamic beatgrids whenever the tempo in the song varies.
Hi Slak_Jaw thanks for reponding
I was hoping that there would be a “Dynamic only” like how it has “Straight only”
at the moment “Automatic” means DJay Pro chooses randomly what a track will be (Dynamic or Straight)
going through my playlists, some songs are Dynamic and some are Straight, This is after it has been “Analyzed” using “Automatic” Bpm Analysis,
when I change tracks that are “Straight” to Dynamics, I some how can edit grids much more easily. the grid lines never go off beat, compared to “Straight only”
thats why I’ve gone through and changed all my tracks from “Straight” to “Dynamics” and hoping there might be a future option for “Dynamics only” in settings.
Hi @eecy_cee, djay doesn’t choose this randomly. It automatically chooses Dynamic for songs with varying tempos and straight everywhere else. I can see your point regarding forcing Dynamic for all songs. I will pass this onto the dev team for consideration. Thanks!
Hi Slak_Jaw
I hope the video is not confusing, It shows how easy it is to adjust Grids with “Dynamic” Grid, compared to straight.
“Dynamic” Grids does a better job overall.
In the vid when I toggle Dynamic to Straight you can see the grids change,
apologies no sound, cant figure out the capture app, maybe its not recording sound cause its a tidal track.
Also Just to add, I analysed the track with
“Automatic” Tempo Change Detection in Bpm Analasys.
Hi @eecy_cee, we need an example song from your library that you feel should have been set to Dynamic when you are using the Tempo Change Detection set to Automatic. When we checked the song in your video, djay correctly identified it as a Dynamic beatgrid track. Please try to share some other examples so we can proceed with this suggestion further. Thanks!
Hi Slak_Jaw,
sorry for the late reply, I had an event on last night, I managed to do a Video (with Audio)
To show the difference with Dynamic and Straight only. How its such a big difference in my experience, How easy it is for me if all my tracks was analysed using Dynamics.
Let me know if you have any questions, Thank You Slak_Jaw
Thanks for the video @eecy_cee. However, what we need is an example of a song that djay applies a Straight beatgrid to when you have the analysis set to Automatic. I suspect that you perhaps had this set to Off before, so some of your songs were forced to a Straight grid instead of Dynamic grid. If you happen to find any songs that should be dynamic instead of straight, please share the track ID with me so we can check this on our end. Thanks again!
I checked this Bee Gees - Night Fever song on my setup and djay correctly identifies it as Dynamic when I have the analysis set to Automatic.
Hi @eecy_cee, I checked all of those songs myself, and djay correctly identified all of them as Dynamic beatgrids the first time I added them to my collection and loaded them to a deck.
You said that you manually changed all of those songs to Straight. Please note that the R-Click Analyze option does not change user modified settings (including beatgrids). So, it is expected behaviour that the beatgrids are staying on Straight if you manually forced them to Straight. If you want to fully re-analyze your manually edited beatgrids of these songs, you need to load the song to Deck 1 and select Restore Analyzed in the Top Menu>Deck 1>BPM menu.
So, will still need you to find an example of a song that djay incorrectly identifies as Straight when is should be Dynamic while having the setting on Automatic, without you first forcing it to be Straight. I hope that makes sense.
Thanks for the info Slak_Jaw, you kinda helped me out to the “Restore Analyzed” function which can be mapped, I’ve tried it, so every track that I load, I can hit the button that Ive mapped “Restore Analyzed” to, and this will set that track that I’ve loaded to “Dynamic”
instead of me going into BPM and changing the track from “Straight” to “Dynamic”
I can do this with 1 mapped button, Thanks to you I would’nt off found this quick easy fix for me:)
I was hoping I could analyse my whole library in one go. Im happy with the workaround, Thank you Slak_Jaw I do appreciate your time
